Show LAYTON, DAVIS COUNTY, UTAH Yes, more gardens mean more food but they also offer other compensations to the gardener and the community, just as important as food For example, we saw a picture the other day of a father planting his garden with two youngsters helping him plant the seeds. His wife is in the background and the father is saying to her, This takes twice as long with their help, but a garden is not the only thing we are raising. No crop you can raise in your garden can equal the harvest you will reap, if you let your children, no matter how small they may be, help you plant and care for it. Your yield of vegetables may not be great, but the all important fact is that you have spent some time in the garden with your children, giving them the feeling that they, too, have accomplished something and contributed to its success. At summers end, when you hear the children say, We sure had a dandy garden this summer, didnt we, Daddy, you will enjoy a thrill most pleasant to experience. This year, however, gardens are most important because they mean more food for the starving peoples of the world. The more food we can raise for our own consumption, the more we can share with the starving people overseas. lets all pitch in and raise a garden this year, whether we live in town or on the farm. Besides a wealth of needSo, ed food, your garden can provide fun, relaxation, good health and help you to get better acquainted with both your family and your neighbors. Show us a community of garden lovers and well show you a pleasant, friendly place in which to live and do business the kind of community we have here in Davis County. i |
