The fact of the matter is a large portion of our difficulty was improper direction by the Mayor in failing to see that the budgetary reports communicated to the Commissioners were correct. He has made contradictory statements regarding our police and fire departments staffing, accusing g the Commissioners of g them. In response to and these inflamatory deceptions I have made available to the press, and will make available to anyone, a fact sheet on our City. The budget I propose for this fiscal year is the lowest budget in the wasatch front for a city anywhere near the size of West Valley City, and the level of service is excellent. This is being frugal and realistic. We, in West Valley City, have a sleeping giant. Which means, we have the potential in our City of growth, and our taxes can be lowered as our industrial area grows. Our strength as a city, our future will not be measured alone by the revenue we receive, or by the mills levied, but by the unity and committment of its citizenry by each and every one of us. The time has come that you, thepeople of west Valley City, must know the facts. I propose to run my candidacy forth rightly and truthfully. My office is always open. You are welcome there. I am available by ext 205). I telephone, (974-550- 1 promise to return your calls. I I believe in West Valley City. believe the wide range of experience 1 have gained through the difficult days of our Citys formation, the problems weve solved, the needs which have been met, and my understanding of the demands of the future all qualify me to discharge successfully the duties and- - obligations of the office of mayor. Claudia Smith lives in Bountiful and she and her businessman husband have four children. A fireman, Craig Mackay, is a resident of Bennion and the father of one child. Their other son, Jeffrey Mackay, lives in Heber City, is a policeman, and has one child. She states that shes always been active in community and church work, anything that involved people. It was a natural outgrowth that she got involved with the new city formation, at the urging of her family and many friends who felt her keen desire to be involved. In order to help clarify the matter the Commissioner-Mayor- Hunter Community Council sponsored a public meeting. After attending that meeting I came away feeling that there were merits to each form of a lot depended upon who those government elected officials were. However, upon further discussion and study, I form has more feel the proposed Council-Mayo- r than disadvantages. Therefore, to advantages our Hunter readers who are residents of West Valley City, the MAGNA TIMES goes on record endorsing that form. We believe that this young city can benefit greatly from having a professional manager carrying out the policies of an elected council. There have been problems in getting this new city off the ground. From what we of the press have been privileged to hear, some of those problems have been caused by individual differences and personality clashes. The Council-Mayo- r form of government could eliminate that sort of problem, making the city easier to govern. In any event, we feel that a realistic approach should be taken. Whatever form is adopted, there will be some problems that will crop up as the city continues to feel its growing pains. Be informed, study the issues, and be and - GLIMPSES Pat Rick By VOTE. How often do we touch life? We spend so much time in pasttimes, formalities, routines; waiting, complaining, excusing, regretting when do we live? Some people say they feel life pulsing most strongly upon awakening. Is it as strength arches our back; pulls our stomach taut; and stretches legs, toes, arms, and fingers to meet the day? Is it as moun-tia- n peak magnets our soul or rainbow consoles with Gods promise? Some say their life can be only by the presence of another being. The passage of President Reagans budget by the House and Senate opened the door to a new era and made possible the changes demanded by the American people in the 1980 elections.
