Renee Mackay Announces Candidacy for Mayor citizens, and as mayor will continue to welcome the counsel and advise of citizens. The good of our entire city is the goal that motivates me, not personal ambition, not the pleasing of special interests in order to perpetuate myself in office or to gain special priviledges for a few. I refuse to be swayed by interests that do not serve all our people. This past year, Ive had a thorough education in the VALLEY CITY At the WEST urging of many people throughout the City who desire a clearer voice from the office of mayor, and with the full support of my husband and family, united with my own convictions of what this City should and can be, I have decided to. run for the office of mayor of West Valley City. Over the past year it has been my great priviledge to serve the people of our community as an elected citizen representative. As a commissioner, I have gained an understanding of the basic and essential needs of the people, the services required at the local level. This knowledge, coupled withe expreience I have had in representing the people of West Valley City, has contributed to the confidence that I, and others have, that zi am qualified to fill this responsible position of mayor. In reviewing the past 16 months during which I have served as Public Safety Commissioner of West Valley City, I am impressed with the manner in which the most significant event in the life of West Valley City have occurred. They occurred, not through the political decisions of two or three as may be expected, but they occurred through the process which I pledged to develop during my campaign for commissioner. This process is known as citizen participation and has been the very marrow and life blood of our City, and as commissioner I depend upon, and appreciated the input of concerned noncommital, carefully evasive that is calculated to gobble-de-goo- k mislead and confuse AND I DEPLORE IT. You can expect to hear it from me like it is. I firmly believe I should be candid and forthright. I believe that the people of the City deserve nothing less than the truth with mature and proper conduct from its leaders. The office of mayor in West Valley City has lost some of its inborn respectability in the past year. The mayor should be the one major tie which binds this City together. That office should never be used to polarize the community over squabbles rooted in a desire for personal power. Inconsistency between avowed purpose and erratic behavior on the part of a mayor can only confuse and divide a city. The Mayors inuendos and accusations regarding our Citys budget was designed to place the blame upon Commissioner Wagstaff and myself. The Mayor seems to avoid mentioning that the Mayor demanded that he be Continued on poge 2 2' CT, 7 ik 'S tkl- - XriSip- K - ; , f ( V-- -- v i y; - : ;; juifmiiwi Magna area resident, Robert L.
