the 5th son Of J Frank and Utah He was later Utah by his foster parents William and B'anche Smout He married Patricia Brown 13 on Aug 1955 Together they brought into this world two and one daughter His life centered OGDEN around his fami- naturalist and gentle spirit he was a lover and protector of animals and his environment Family summers were spent ly A of kind traipsing through the wilderness where the lessons of life's simple pleasures unfolded The warmth of the i sun s caress on a brisk morning the relaxing song of a mountain stream or the stunning beauty of the setting sun touching the sky with fire were our gifts to enjoy and he was a master at capturing his world on canvas or a sketch pad A skilled archer and fisherman seldom was the big one the one that got away Music making was one of his many talents Never again will we hear the sound of a banjo that we won't reminisce of shaded times listening to him pluck the strings of his favored instrument A retiree of the Southern Pacific Railroad he served in the Korean War and was also a published writer who generously seasoned his works with humor Following the golden rule was the rule Pursuit of a better education and an honest day’s work for an honest day's pay were valued traits He had an uncanny ability to always find the best that one had to offer and to inspire those about him to seek and finely the daughter of Kennetn Soren and Rose Keller Jensen She attended schools Herman H Markos age 81 died in his sleep on Friday May 14 1999 at his home He was born February 20 1918 in Ogden to Harry and Frosini Houlis Markos He was reared in Farr West Utah where he attended elementary school He had also lived in Marriott Utah He graduated from Weber High School and Weber Junior College He was In the military during World War II serving with the 757 Tank Battalion in the North African and Italian Theaters of Operation Herman married the love of his life Argie Chocas in Cheyenne Wyoming on April 27 1947 Argie died October 22 1985 He had been employed in the wholesale confection and tobacco industry He had also worked for the Marquardt Corporation Hercules Incorporated and Jetway Systems where he retired as a purchasing agent Herman was a Greek Orthodox Christian He was a past president of the 757 Tank Battalion Veteran's Association and a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No 719 Ogden He was also a member of Unity Lodge No 18 Free and Accepted Masons Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Free Masonry Orient of Utah Scottish Rite Club bf Utah El Kalah Temple of the Shrine Salt Lake City The Ogden Shrine Club and was a past Associate Guardian of Bethel 2 International Order of Jobs Daughters He was a Past Vice Commander of Baker Merrill Post No 9 American Legion and a past member of the Salt Lake Chapter of the Purchasing Management Association Herman was an avid gardener enjoyed fishing and had traveled extensively in the United States Australia and at Brigham City Community Hospital She loved to do things for others and was always eager to help where she could Her husband Charlie was the most important person in her life along with her children grandchildren and brothers and sisters She loved gardening and was always eager to give starts of her beautiful roses to her neighbors She was an avid Jazz fan and never missed watching a game One of her favorite hobbies was making scrapbooks and collecting poetry She especially loved the poems and essays written by her children and grandchildren She had a great sense of humor and was always ready
