lake building and manufacturing fac turing company sent in the following we hereby notify you that we have not up to date been placed in possession of the premises upon which to erect the twentieth school building and therefore we will and do hereby claim two days for each and every day we have been delayed or the premises have failed to be given into our possession e owing to the difference in the condition of the weather now and when the work of plastering will have to be done jj committee on sites and buildings it was stated that the delay was owing to the old building not having been adopted THE TONIO SOL FA SYSTEM the tonic sol fa society asked for an opportunity to discuss the merits of the system before the committee on school work and stated that professor J daynes would attend for that purpose at any time and place convenient for said committee t r daynes daynee also asked that he be allowed to introduce an 11 year old pupil to practically demonstrate the superiority that as a result ot of their negotiations with mr W W riter biter that gentleman is now willing to accept the sum of for the whole of lot 8 block 56 66 plat B salt lake aake city survey this lot ekoes races 10 rods east on the fourth east street and runs 20 rods back and is situate 10 rods north of fourth south street mr riter biter reserves the privilege of removing all improvements except the fence enclosing the lot your committee recommend the purchase of this lot at the price above stated provided the title shall be found to be perfect and free of incumbrance on the following terms cash payment of the lot let and the deed accepted and filed for record adopted LEASE CANCELLED mr of the committee on ofte sites and sand buildings building reported that the lease n the rooms formerly occupied bythe by the board would not tie oe up until september there was a abill bill for for rent up till the present and mr roberts had agreed to take and cancel the lease AN ASSISTANT superintendent the committee on school work made an informal report deport on superintendent millspaugh auglis recommendation that an assistant t superintendent be appointed to take charge of the lower grades the report recommended that the suggestion be adopted newman opposed it said there was no necessity for an assistant unless mr Mil millspaugh lapaugh wanted to pay the as ae blatant out of his hie already very high salary higher than that tit of any other superintendent in the west he thought the superintendent should earn his money like any other employed and not have a substitute to do his hie work at the expense of the board pratt moved to reft r the report back to the commit tee so that the report be made in due form motion lost the question of adopting the report was voted on and adopted yeas 8 nays 1 SCHOOL TEXT BOOKS the question of selecting school text books came up pike wanted more information and thought the matter should lay over for a week to give the committee on school work time to make a full report superintendent millspaugh said the committee op books could not report deport until the committee on school work reported dooly said the question seemed to resolve itself into whether the city would supply the text books free or not Bay bould moved that the board now consider the question of furnishing books free motion lost and matter laid over for one indies hebrew benevolent society asked for the loan of benches from the seventh ward school for the evening of july 7 at which time the society iii tended giving a lawn party refused the question of
