| Show WEBER STAKE conference monday evening closed the two days d ays meetings of the weber stale stake coD conference terence it opened on sunday morning april and continued on the monday the building on sunday was filled to overflowing after the opening exercises president li W shurtliff reported as to the general cc edition of the stake showing it to be in general in a good con the priesthood were alive to the duties of their calling and the B bishops were energetic in looking after the interest of the people of their respective spec tive wards the presidency of the stake and members of the high council had bad held ward conferences throughout the county at which much needed Instruct instructions ious had been given and some vacancies filled union and good feeling generally prevailed Jeo the various ward authorities were sustained by u unanimous nani vote c the several improvement associations relief belief societies primaries and sabbath schools were in good running order holding their regular sessions pursuing their studies in the various branches of theological education and the members are making commendable progress in the pursuit of knowledge th rue e stake missionaries who were appointed last fall have labored through the winter months with zeal fidelity ind and much benefit to the saints in this stake they have aw au been honorably released and others will ere long be appointed to continue the good work the report showed also that since our last stake conference was held among those thomb who have been removed by the hand band of death were elder diniel daniel B rawson member of the high council and andrew W taylor bishop of the far west ward while our conference was to in session yesterday afternoon word was brought to the stand that elder lester J herrick also a member of the high coon elk cit died she shortly before tb three roe that day As a token of respect for the last named the rags flags on the pu public aliv buildings are half mast the report altogether was cheering ng and encouraging the visitors and speakers at the conference were apostles F D richards abraham H cannon john W and elder B S W richards Richar doi the topics treated upon were mission ary work and the proper qualifications for the ministry the utilization of talents so that all may find employ ment for which they are adapted the completion of the salt lake temple the I 1 importance mp ortance and necessity of temple work f r the salvation of the dead as aa well as the living tithing fast day offerings the importance of living godly and pure lives sobriety bon h on esty estyl integrity observance of the sabbath day the word of wisdom etc human haman life in nearly all its phases was exhibited the good and the evil pointed out and the saints were counseled to assimilate the former and to shun the latter that they may enoy enjoy the fellowship of the holy ghost each one spoke with much power and fervor and the audiences listened with rapt attention to the instructions imparted by the servants of god the general and stake authorities were sustained without a dissenting vote the weber stake academy is highly appreciated and patronized by not only members of the church but many non members who seek and obtain the advantages of the education that that excellent institution affords to its stu etu dents JOSEPH HALL OGDEN april 1892 |
