Show DEATH OF ROBERT BODILY i today the people of kaysville Kays ville turned out almost en masse mane to pay their last respects to the remains of brother robert bodily who passed peacefully from this life on friday last at the ripe age of 76 months and 15 days robert bodily wis born bora in woodend Northampton shire england on the of december 1816 1815 in december 1845 he be emigrated to cape colony africa where he engaged in mechanical I 1 and agricultural pursuits he was admirably adapted to a frontier life being a first claw class mason and worker in wood and iron his reputation as a wagon maker soon spread through the colonies and in a few years he had accumulated what in those days was considered a fortune herein here in 1867 1857 the gospel found him in pleasant circumstances comparatively wealth wealthy yand and widely honored but he eagerly embraced the truth and from that time dates a career re mai kable for its unselfishness charity and strict integrity he disposed dispo eed ot of his large posse posses slone tons and on the of march 1860 started for zion throughout the long and arduous trip by sailing and ox team on numerous occasions his bis generosity was manifest ed in the aid of his poorer brethren and there is perhaps not one of that company but holds him in grateful remembrance on one occasion while at florence he contributed a thousand dollars in aid of the emigration he arrived in salt bait lake city in october 1860 where for a short period he resided in the sixth ward from there moved to kaysville Kays ville the following season and located permanently by this time he had followed almost literally the saviors injunction sell all that thou hast and give to the poor and follow me mes 1 and now on the downward slope of life he found himself with a new home to make under hew con aitio D t J and circumstances but he went to work with phenomenal energy and from that day until his last sickness the history of his life was wa e one of great labor under circum circumstances ets I 1 ces t that hat to some would have been discouraging through all he be remained consistent prosperity could not spoil him adversity could hot swerve him his bis course was straightforward his ob beete tha th glory of god and his own sal his character was beautiful in its it rugged simplicity and honesty stern and uncompromising in the presence of evil pleasant and genial in the society of friends he was a man whom to intimately know was a pleasure and to possess assess whose esteem was an honor one of his characteristics which harmonized with the beauty of his life was his love of flowers the old man has been often heard to say jocularly that if he could not have a flower garden in heaven he be care to go there 12 A large procession followed his remains to the cemetery when they were placed to rest reef covered by a fragrant mass of the symbols of purity the flowers he be loved so well and many hearts today today are deeply impressed by a lesson hisson theowell they theo y will not soon forget he leaves a family of eleven children seventy grandchildren and nice great grandchildren W A HYDE KAYSVILLE utah april 17 1892 |
