Show DEATH OF SENATOR PLUMB THE dispatches bring news dews of the sudden death of Seu senator plumb of kansas at his hie apartments in washington D C he died of apoplexy super induced by overwork preston B plumb was burn in dela ware county ohio october he commenced life as a printer he removed to kansas kaneas in 1856 he was admitted to the bar in 1861 and was a member of the kansas 1 legislature in 1862 in the same year he became re porter of the kansas supreme court and later on at the close or ane year entered the Union army as a lieutenant he served throughout the remainder of the civil war and came out with the rank of lieutenant colonel he entered the kansas legislature a second time in 1867 and was speaker of the house in 1868 he was elected united states senator from kansas in 1876 was reelected elected re in 1888 and was at his death on his third term the deceased senator also figured as an author in 1875 he edited and adapted a law w rk entitled 11 practice before justice courts in kaunas kansas 11 he was a strong and able man both physically and mentally he was a preat great champion of western interests I 1 and indefatigable in committee work he was for a longtime on the committees of agriculture and appropriations and was chairman of the Commit teon on public lands he was thoroughly posted on public acain and gave his t county the full benefit of his more than ordinary powers his death will be greatly regretted by his constituents constituent and by his bis associates in the senate and is a loss lose to the nation |
