Show THE SCHOOL BOARD A meeting of the board of education was held november ath mayor scott presiding mr millspaugh Mil lapaugh asked that mrs mckay one of the teachers beacht rs have her salary advanced to 76 75 per mouth her position poy iliou warranting the increase referred to the committee on poachers rea chers mr Mil lapaugh also recommended a system of electric bells to secure uniformity in class work referred to the committee on school work the treasurer submitted the following report fourth district school eighth district school fourteenth district school 39 twelfth district school thirteenth distri t school seventeenth distinct school nineteenth district school twenty firt first district school 66 65 overdraft at me ornic Ls hank 41 special tax from L G hardy 00 total Amount paid in warrants 1117 clerks warrants total mr nelson remarked that another liml had been turned over since the above report was made hanlon benson contractors asked for 1750 because having taken the fifteenth ward schoolhouse bouse contract they had retrained mf rained from bidding on any other contract which has been a serious loss to them referred the committee on school buildings reported in favor of and the board authorized them to make a contract t with the owners of the old ward building in the eleventh ward for use as a school building the committee also reported in favor of enforcing the penalty agal against last the contractor on the fourteenth ward school building from the 1st ast of november the motion was w adopted on motion of mr nelson yeas 9 nays days 0 the same committee reported in favor of furnishing coal for the rooms in the sixth ward church occupied as a school in addition to the payment of the rental of 35 per month this sum not being large enough to insure the rooms being cared for mr nelson reported that the exposition building management had leased the south wing of the structure upon condition that the board put in the necessary partitions the board ratified the action the committee on furniture reported in favor of purchasing a bell and flagstaff for the fourteenth ward schoolhouse and also lecorn recommended that an iron fence be put around the grounds mr nelson moved that the bed be 1 and be purchased the committee on buildings was instructed to obtain bids for the fence and report at the next meeting ID f the ahe general supply committee reported that A LW cwilliams illIams had bad been awarded the contract for supplying the 8 bools with coal and that worth hall bad been supplied the different schools heaters had bad been put in in several of the school buildings the report was received and adopted the committee on examination of teachers presented a communication from superintendent millspaugh regard ing examinations recommending rec ammend that no examinations be held in the coming vacation the report was referred to the committee on employment of te achere for action the committee on school work reported favorably upon mr lewis application for permission to use the lower room in the fifteenth ward school building for a night school the report of the was adopted after some discussion the committee on school supplies reported in favor of employing an extra teacher to take the place lace of any teacher who may be ill ii or be assigned to do duty elsewhere by the su superintendent pert audit reported in favor of closing the september account and opening that of october adopted mr nelson moved that the terms of the officers date from the date of their qualification and not from july suggested the levy of the tax for next year out but the board decided that there was time enough before december and the matter went over mr moran the plumbing contractor on the fourteenth ward building by mr monheim i architect demanded on ac count account the secretary stated that mr moran had threatened to stop work if this amount was not forthcoming at once the secretary was instructed to notify moran and monheim that when the former rendered his bis account according to law it would be considered and not before mr pike presented notes given by trustees of the old board to various parties the holders of which desire payment they were referred to the committee on fl finance nance the announcement of the new committed comm ittes was then made as follows finance nelson johnson
