Perhaps youve If any of these items look familiar, just check with the SUSC Security Office, where articles lost on campus can be reclaimed. found something. If while walking through campus you saw what seemed to be an expensive watch on the ground, what would you do? Thirty students, when asked this question, produced four different responses. There were a few who said theyd keep it. Some would leave it where it was. Some students had no idea where they should take it, while others would give the watch to someone who, they thought, knew what to do with it. Kent Hoyt, SUSC security chief, said, Lots of students dont know where to turn in things they find or to look for something they lost. A lot of the things that are turned in, never get claimed. Sets of car keys, a drawer full of jewelry and watches and a room full of clothing make up what is SUSCs lost and found department which clutters Hoyts office in the Plant Operations building. Getting rid of the clutter is easy, he says it gets tossed into a closet. Sometimes articles that have been collecting dust four to five years are given to the Salvation Army or are donated as costumes for the theatre department. If you are looking for something you lost or want to turn in something you found, the best place to check would be Hoyts office. If you have lost or found an object in any one of the dorms, you might talk to a custodian, who will get in touch with security. Sometimes before turning in lost items to security, custodians will keep them for a few days to be claimed. The classified ad section in The Thunderbird is another way to locate lost items and to indicate that you have found an item. Rates are reasonable. Fifty cents will buy you a lost ad for three weeks and found ads are free. You may not always find what you lost when you check with security, but at least theres a chance that what someone else found could be yours.
