That low, depressed, whats the use of living feel- ing is something you can get along vv Patsy Edwards, author of Youve To Find Happiness: It Wont Find Got You (a new guide to using leisure) thinks there are many ways to kick the blues habit. It takes a little effort but she knows it is worth it. Her daughter Jan, attending The University Of Southern California, is a living example of how to have lun. As Queen of Lambda Chi Fraternity she is popular, busy and very happy. The important thing, says Patsy Edwards, is to live right now. Dont do things just because you have to or thg are good for you. Organize your life so that you can enjoy it. Save enough time for study so that you arent frantic about homework. Be sure you allow yourself enough time for sleeping, eating, bathing and taking care of your clothes. Then, allocate time for th'ngs you really want to do. Don't get hooked on T.V. Watching e can be addictive. Watch that a few special sport or international events but dont spend hours in a dark room when you should be outside doing something rather than looking at someone else using their muscles. Skip ith-ou- t. t boob-tub- T-- during the week. Use your time for school doings. ARE YOU interested in dating, looking for a steady? If you are a shy girl take up an indoor or outdoor sports hobby. Learn something about a sport or hobby that boys enjoy. This will help you meet young men and will also give you something to talk about when someone interesting comes along. If someone breaks a date dont sit around and mope. Use the time to catch up on cleaning out your bureau drawers, sorting out the mess in your closet, reading the magazine articles you havent had time to get to. Prepare for a test, write some letters or take a nap. Enjoy that little extra time. If you have a great deal of time, do something productive, help someone. Volunteers are always welcome at your church, at a hospital, at thd Braille Institute. Elderly people who cant get out are thrilled with a visit from the younger generation. There are many families that need baby sitters but cant afford them. Help them out. Tutor the children, working with them can make things clearer in your own mind. None of these things cost money, they just take time. Use your time so that you enjoy the results as well as the moments. Save time for rap sessions with friends. Exchange ideas about the world, your ambitions, what you want out of life. Talking things out will give you an insight into how others feel. It also teaches you how to express yourself. SOME people are doers, they want to play tennis, join the drama society, sing in the choral group. Others like to collect things, stamps or coins or bottles. Others like to make things, do woodworking, knit or sew. Whatever you like to do is right for you. Arrange a comfortable place to do it. Get k in good shape, ready to use, whether it is a reading chair, a work Bench or a sewing machine. If you are a busy person, says Mrs. Edwards, have a pet that doesn't need a lot of care, such as a bird, a cat, fish or a turtle. If you have a dog be sura to save enough time for It A dog needs, a lot of attention. It thrives on companionship and will pine away from loneliness. "You should get pleasure from anyeverything you do. So dont bver-dthing. Moderation isnt dull, its smart. If you open your eyes to the world around you you can really make your pleasure relevant.
