THE TRIUMPH gave the Yankees a game and a half lead over the Sox and the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles Climbed into a second place tie with a victory over Detroit. Errors by catcher Joe Ginsberg, first baseman Roy Sievers and a botched up play by second baseman Nellie Fox spoiled what could have been a brilliaht job of relief pitching by Gerry Staley. Staley took over in the eighth with the bases loaded and none out. 3-- He got pinch batter John Blanchard to bounce to Fox but Ginsberg bobbled the throw at the plate and a run scored to break the tie. Staley then picked off Gil McDougalds bounder and forced Moose Skowron at the' plate. Tony Kubek bounced to Sievers, who bobbled the ball and threw too late to get the runner at home. 4-- 4 r PITTSBURGH, Aug. 9 (Vinegar Bend) Mizell, pitching his fourtli complete game in a row for the league-leadinPittsburgh Pirates, stopped the Chicago Cubs Tuesday night on a Three double plays and two fine catches by centerfielder Bill Virdon gave Mizell the needed support as the Pirates won their sixth consecutive game. MIZELLS BED for a third straight shutout was spoiled in the fifth when A1 Heists double and Ron Santos single scored the only Chicago run. Mizell had pitched 3014 scoreless innings until then. The last place Cubs havent been able to beat Mizell since the opening game of the 1958 season when he was with St Louis. Hes beaten the Cubs 10 straight since then. His season record now stands at nine victories and five defeats.
