Price, director of the St. George Visitors Center, said 35,000 people visited the center in 1972, and from among that number, about 7,000 referrals were sent in to the church. That year, 1,600 copies of the Book of Mormon also were placed through the center. Last year, there were 36,000 visitors and again, about 7,000 referrals. The center also placed 1,885 copies of the Book of Mormon. The expansion and remodeling of the visitors center involved building a film room with seating for about 90 people, plus a projection room and storage space. The remodeling also provided a better flow of traffic through the center, giving visitors the option of three routes to hear the information presented about the church. Since that time, it has become a mission, and guides and information are provided during the tourist season from June 1 to Labor Day each year. Movies are ahown at 8 p.m. each night. As of this week, the four mission presidents in the stakes in Brigham City are working with the presidents of the four stakes to name personnel to repaint signs, conduct tours and care for the tabernacle. The four stake mission presidents are Lee D. Packer, Brigham City Utah Box Elder Stake; Edwin D. Summers, Bngham City Utah South Stake; Glenn L. Hawkes, Brigham City Utah Stake, and Rulon L. Smoot, Brigham City Utah North Stake. When the tabernacle was named an historical site, it was established as a mission and a president and counselors were called to care for it. But now it will be under the direction of the four stake mission presidents, and upkeep for the building will be provided by the four stakes. It w ill continue to be used for stake conferences for Box Elder Stake, but many of the other uses will be taken care of in a proposed new stake center, which will be built soon. There are things planned at The Genealogical Society for conference visitors this spring, as well as local residents who use the facility, according to Thomas E. Daniels, administrative office manager. Brother Daniels cautioned those who will be traveling to Salt Lake City for conference, and who plan to use the genealogical facilities, to bring all pertinent notes, records and pedigree charts in order that their visit might be as productive as possible. "Employes of the society will be prepared to give all necessary help to patrons, but will be of greatest service if patrons come properly prepared to do research," said Brother Daniels. u t ?i Brother Daniels also said a new class is being offered to church members in the Salt Lake area interested in genealogy, entitled Preparing for Genealogical Research at the Genealogical Society Library. 'the class will be offered throughout April, several times during the day and evening hours on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Each class session will take one hour, and times will be posted at the library. Material covered will be the same in each class. Persons interested may register on arrival on a first-combasis.
