Show CHURCH IN ACTION THE AROUND THE WORLD UTAH: Dates Set for missionary Annual Manti Pageant REUNIONS 'lie Manti Pageant, which tells of early pioneers in the church, will be held this year July and Last year, the pageant, then in its seventh year, drew 120,000 visitors, ns many as 18,000 in one night, according to Manti Utah Stake Pres. Wilbur W. Cox, who is pageant executive committee chairman. The pageant is presented by a cast of about 300 drawn from the four stakes in the Manti Region. Notices of missionary reunions being held during the annual conference of the church will be published in the Deseret News, Thursday, April 4. 11-1- Members of missionary groups wanting to include notice of their reunions in this list must telephone the information to the Deseret News City Desk not later than 4 p.m., Tuesday, April 2. First South, should arrive no later tnan Tuesday, April 2, 4 PROVO: Library Group Honors BYU Librarian p.m MARYLAND: Stake Choir Combines With Orchestra The Siver Spring Maryland Stake Choir, in an example of good community relations, recently joined the Prince Georges County Symphony Orchestra for a joint concert. The choir and orchestra performed Beethovens Choral Fantasia, and Symphony No. 9. The Silver Spring Maryland Choir has sung often at conferences of the church, and is a regular performer at numerous religious events. SALT LAKE CITY: Public Health Association Board Lila Jameson, Belvedere 1st Ward, Salt Lake Wells Stake, has been appointed a member of the Action Board of the American Public Health Association. Sister Jameson will be representing the Western United States, including Utah, California, Nevada, Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New and Mexico, Oregon, Washington Wyoming. Sister Jameson is a 1965 graduate of Brigham Young University. She attended the University of Hawaii School of Public Health, and received her masters degree in public health education in 1969. . . . represents Western U.S, 16-2- Time for Spring Cleanup (Calif.) County park received an early spring sprucing-u-p by the Aaronic Priesthood MIA of the Yucaipa Ward, San Bernardino California Stake. The Glen Helen Park took on a more appealing look as the 175 youths restored picnic tables, weeded the lawn areas, transplanted cover plants, and built additional paths for an ecology trail. The park is the site of an early Mormon settlement. A San Be.mardino INDIANA: Youths Essay Read into Congressional Record a copy of young D.C., where it was read on the floor of the House of Representatives and entered in the Congressional Record with Jim as author. The essay, entitled "Freedom, reads: All right team, our goal is freedom. Now lets get in there and win freedom. "We all know what the plays are. Congressmen forwards, Judicial Branch guards. Legislative Branch centers. Now pass that love, dribble that kindness, but most of all, make every shot at freedom count. When the game is over, if we win well really want to hang on to our victory to help our fans live peacefully. The teams captain is the Executive Branch. After the game is over we can thank our coach, Heavenly Father. The trophy we will get will be the greatest and most treasured honor that the United States will receive. We will dedicate this game to the freedom fighters of America. Jim is an active deacon and a Scout. He is working toward Life Rank and serves as scribe and librarian of his troop. He is a substitute organist for prelude music in sacrament meetings in his ward. Jim also has been in his school band for two years and has been on the school basketball team for a year. He recently set a new school record for the rope climb, sixth grade division. ABERDEEN, MD. John S. Landbeck Jr., is the recipient of one of the five Outstanding Young Marylanders Awards presented by the Maryland Jaycees. He is first counselor in the Chesapeake Ward bishopric, and is an assistant county attorney, chairman of the town planning and zoning board, and recently has been appointed by the governor to the public defender advisory board. PUYALLUP, WASH. The baptism of Ron and Smiles Pierce and Christy Shell, Graham Ward, Puyallup Washington Stake, provided an interesting missionary setting. Of the 139 persons in attendance, 79 were friends and relatives of the new members o.' the church. Sixty .were members of the Thunn family, of which Christy, 13, is a member. A deacon from the Indianapolis 2nd Ward, Indianapolis Indiana North Stake, has been honored in the U.S. Congressional Record. Jim Powner, sen of Brother and Sister Larry Powner, placed first in the Sertoma Club Freedom Essay Contest, sponsored by the Sertoma Club of East Indianapolis. There were more than 3,000 entries from the East Indianapolis Public School System. He was honored as winner at a banquet attended by Indiana Rep. William Hudnut, who presented the awards. Rep. Hudnut took Jims essay to Washington, Mrs. Hattie M. Knight, Provo, Utah, has been awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the University Section of the Utah Library Association. Sister Knight served as librarian at Brigham Young University for 32 years, during which time she built the reference department, and later headed the library science instructional program at the recently renamed Harold B. Lee Library at BYU. She received her bachelors degree from BYU in 1941, then obtained a professional library degree at the University of Denver in 1943. She earned her masters degree at George Peabody College for Teachers in 1951, and did graduate work at Rutgers University. REXBURG: Ricks Guard On Intermountain Team Ricks freshman guard, Colleges Byron In The Woods, has been named to the first team of the Intermountain Col- legiate Athletic Conference. Byron has been leading all Ricks basketball team members in scoring and assists. In the regular season, he had 473 points and 134 assists. e He has a 40.8 percentage from the field, 201 for 493. From the foul line, Byron had a 70.3 percent. 71 of 101. He averaged 16.3 points per game for the season, and had a conference record of 36 points for one game.
