Show Members of the Presiding Bishopric and the Aaronic Priesthood MIA presidencies answer questions about the new program. Leaders Explain Aaronic "he restoration of the Aaronic Priesthood is of utmost significance to us, for it is the power of the priesthood which directs this youth organization and sets it apart from all other youth organizations throughout the world. Bishop Victor L. Brown of the Presiding Bishopric elaborated on the importance of the vital role the Aaronic Priesthood has in the MIA program during the afternoon session of conference on June 22. Also participating at the session were the other members of the Presiding Bishopric, Bishop H. Burke Peterson and Bishop Vaughn J. Featherstone, and the General Aaronic Priesthood MfA presidents, Mrs. Ruth H. Funk and Robert L. Bad man, and their counselors, Mrs. Hortcuse Child, Mrs. Ardith Kapp, and Eldeis LeGrand R. Curtis and Jack il. Goaslind Jr. More detailed information and instructions were presented to the leaders attending June Conference at nine departmental sessions following the third general session of conference on June 23. Forming a panel at the second general session, the two presidencies and the Presiding Bishopric answered questions most frequently asked about the new Aaronic Priesthood MIA program. Those questions and answers, along with other subjects of discussion held in the departmental sessions, helped and enlightened leaders attending June Conference. Explaining the new program, Bishop Brown said, The purpose of the Aaronic Priesthood MIA is the same as the total purpose of the church to help our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in His great work which is to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. That is why the church bears His name. We are members of His church, and His work is our work. But the Aaronic Priesthood MIA is designed to accomplish specific things that will help our youth center their lives in the Savior. Youth will be in a position of leadership with increased responsibilities and accountability for themselves and other youth within their stewardship. Other questions and answers discussed by the panel and at departmental sessions follow. The stake presidency is the presidency of the Aaronic Priesthood and the stake president, presides over the Aaronic Priesthood in the stake. One member of the stake presidency is designated as chairman of the stake Aaronic Priesthood, including the AP MIA. to direct, advise, make assignments, call meetings, ask for reports, supervise and counsel. One high councilor will be designated by the stake Presiding Bishop Victor L. Brown leads panel presentation as images are projected on screen. 6 - CHURCH WEEK ENDING JUNE 30, 1973 presidency to direct, coordinate, and implement the stake Aaronic Priesthood program. One adult woman is called by the stake presidency to direct, coordinate, and implement the stake Aaronic Priesthood program fon young women. These two advisers will work together to guide, cor relate, and carry out stake Aaronic Priesthood functions, work with age group advisers, activity and service committees, and with youth committees: They will conduct leadership training for ward counterparts, coordinate AP MIA with other church programs such as Sunday School, Primary, seminary, and the Melchizedek Priesthood MIA. They will also help develop the stake calendar. Three high councilors will be designated by the stake presidency to work for the designated age group-witthe AP MIA advisers. Three adult women will be recommended by the young womens adviser of the AP MIA to be called by the stake presidency for the designated age groups. The clerk of the stake Aaronic Priesthood committee should be an assistant stake clerk. He will keep minutes of the stake Aaronic Priesthood committee meeting, and of the stake AP MIA committee meeting, and perform other assignments as given by the stake presidency and the AP MIA adviser. The young womens secretary assists the clerk and the young womens adviser of the AP MIA. The advisers of vhe AP MIA will recommend a maximum' of three men or women or both to be called by the stake presidency to guide, coordinate, and implement service and activity functions of the stake. The advisers of the AP MIA will recommend specially skilled individuals for approval by the stake presidency to carry out selected service and activity projects. The assignments will usually be temporary and will terminate at the conclusion of the specific activity. The stake Youth Committee is recommended by the young mens and young womens AP MIA advisers and called by the stake presidency as needed. This is not a standing committee. A youth committee, comprised of the ward group, quorum and class presidents, will assist AP MIA advisers and advisers in planning the year's stake calendar. Other youth may be called as needed for other 'ommittees to solve problems, give input of ideas, plan and prepare stake events. age-grou- p The stake Aaronic Priesthood Committee consists of stake presidency, the young mens and young womens MIA advisers, advisers, and the clerk and secretary.
