Those two sporting hunt out. ings were on the threshold of becoming realities Friday as the final of FiX citizen meets came to a conclusion at the Wildlife Resource Division offices, 1596 W. North Temple. An overflow crowd listened intently as preliminary comment was made regarding the hunting of big game in Utah. Hearing comment were Del Brownfield, representing the sportsmen; Lloyd Johnson, cattlemen; Bud Phelps, WRK; Mike Gaufin, United States Service and Newell Johnsson, woolgrowers. Final action was scheduled to be taken Saturday in a closed meeting. Hunting dates, hunt areas, trophy hunt information, and other special regulations were to be announced following the meeting. Friday's Meeting was one of six scheduled throughout the state. Other meetings where citizens were given an opportunity to participate were held in Price, Ogden, Vernal, Cedar City, Rich and Richfield. 'Country' softballers By Dan Pattison Deseret News Sports Writer "We're just a bunch of country guys trying to show those city dudes what this game of slow pitch softball is about." That was Jerry Lee sizing up his Overniter Motor Inn Metro Softball slow pitch team. Ills team has done a good job of proving his statement this season with a mark, second to Priced Rite Trophy in the league. Lee, a 38 year-ol- d former Tooele High athlete, even goes so fat to say, I think we've got a better club than Priced Rite. They've got more power. But our biggest problem is that we have a tendency to relay against 14-- 3 "Man-for-ma- weaker teams and they beat us. Priced Rite doesn't do that. They don't relax." Murcer, fined $250 earlier in the day by baseball Commissioner Bowie Kuhn for saying Kuhn didn't have the "guts" to stop Perry from throwing the spitball, got a chance to prove Friday night that Perry's pitching isn't always that difficult to hit. After claiming that he has to be "lucky" to hit Perry, homer Murcer hit a two-ru- n a that highlighted fourth inning and carried the New York Yankees to a 2 victory over the Cleveland Indians. Roy White chipped in with two solo homers.
