Jacobsen, Church curator, was elected on June 26 as a vice treasurer and a member of the governing board of the International Council of Women. She and former Relief Society President Belle S. Spafford were two of 10 delegates of the United States to the international meeting in Vancouver, 2. Canada, June Also attending the convention were Ruth H. Funk, general president of Young Women, and Barbara B. Smith, general president of the Relief Society. Sister Jacobsen will be serving in her position as a vice treasurer with representatives from Turkey and Great Britain. Sixty-eignations have membership in the council. She is a former general president of the YWMIA. ly KOREA: Big Attraction From Small Parade The group was small but it managed to capture the attention of news reporters and television cameras in Seoul, Korea. Twenty-fivChurch members, in a Mormon Children's Day Parade, proceeded down the busy streets of Seoul spreading sunshine and music. The parade looped in front of the capitol building and had its finale in front of the city hall. Beesley, a priest in the 2nd Ward, Macon Georgia Stake, was one of three recipients of $2,300 academic scholarships given by the citys newspaper, the Columbus Iiedger. Webb, assistant professor of education at Brigham Young University, has been chosen presidentelect of the Utah Association of Teacher Educators. WHITEHALL, N.Y. Colleen Fredette, a sixth-grade- r and member of the Glens Falls W'ard of the Albany New York Stake, is the first student to ever obtain a perfect score on the New York State Reading Test. More than one million students in more than 5,000 school buildings take the test each year. MANCHESTER, CONN. John C. Lynch, a member of the Manchester Ward, Hartford Connecticut Stake, and Howard Perry, an investigator of the Church, received Silver Beaver awards from the Algonquin District, Long Rivers Council of the Boy Scouts of America on May 28. Williams, assistant professor of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of California, Santa Barbara, has been elected a correspondent member of the Maranhao Academy of letters, a unit of the Brazilian Stale of Maranhao. Death OREM, UTAH Rebecca Rosetta Peterson Bean, 85. died June 25 in an Orem nursing home after a long illness. She and her late husband, Willard Washington Bean, were the first missionaries called to reside at the Joseph Smith Farm, Palmyra, N.Y. They served there for 24 years. CALIFORNIA: Scout Saves Sister From Fire Bonnie Gallacher is a with a smile that brightens the day for everyone in the G. S. Gallacher home. Her brother, Gaylan, is the one who is credited with preserving that smile. On June 16, 1975, Gaylan, then a Cub Scout, saved Bonnies life.
