When there is order in the nation, there will be peace in the . , Man has within him the power, which the Father has bestowed upon him, so to develop in truth, faith, wisdom, and all the virtues, that eventually he shall become jike the Father and the Son; this virtue, wisdom, and knowledge on the part of the faithful does not rob the Father and the Son, but adds to their glory and dominion. Thus it is destined that those who are worwith thy to become his sons and pim-heir- s our Redeemer, would be heirs of the Fathers kingdom, possessing the same attributes in their perfection, as the Father and the Son now posses. Communication Is Much More Than Just Speaking When we speak we are communicating. Of course, communication is much more than speaking. But because speaking is so very fundamental, it is wise to strive to improve our skills. But no one can learn to speak well without study and practice. The more one studies the art of speaking, the more confidence, skill, poise, ability and effectiveness he will develop. Joseph Fielding Smith By the power of our Father in heaven man is saved. And this power of God is exercised through the action of His laws. His laws are given for the benefit of His children to help them properly take of command their lives concerning worldly goods. Christ taught: . . . seek not ye what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. . For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that you have need of these things. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Luke (12:29-31.) John H. Vandenben You young folks have but to look around you to see evidences of the continual work- " ings of some great intelligence or power beyond your own. Contemplate mans own body for a moment and consider the stupendous miracle of his existence, his birth, his development, the functioning of life processes and the touch of divinity that seems inherent in him, and with awe you will exclaim at the wonder of it all. Go out into the stillness of the night and observe world. MIA Speech Committee the myriads of stars. Winter comes with its chilling blasts and all nature seems shrouded in a white mantle of death, but with the touch of gentle spring and the succeeding march of summer and autumn, earth yields her abundant harvest as a gift from, unseen forces that thus minister to human needs. All these and more are perpetual evidences of power with purpose. That power, the testimony of tradition, history and revelation from God, and that purpose is to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. Harold B. Let' With every gift of power comes the temptation to abuse it. Each man has within himself the power that can destroy him, and that is a fact that each man should keep in mind. Each man or boy, whatever his age or his station in life, is subject to the temptation to destroy himself by reason of n a power which all of us have. All of us who know good sometimes feel God-give- within ourselves the possibility of evil, and while we may condemn sincerely and without any nypocrisy the evil :n us, we are conscious that at times we ourselves are tempted to do the vpry thing we hate, anu in doing it we hate ourselves as well as the thing we do. I think this caused Paul to admit, . . . the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. (Rom. 7:19.) Hush B. Brown What is needed in the world today is a stabilizing power, something that will unite people and bring peace, joy, and security. What is this power? It is the Gospel of Jesus Christ as it influences the family through the home. History proves that a nation is no stronger than the strength of the individual home. Someone has made this observation about the strength of homes: If there is righteousness in the heart, there will be beauty in the charac Paul H. Dumt There are those who might think God has given this priesthood power too widely in our day to men who do not appreciate this calling. However, I have faith in God and believe that this priesthood has been given widely because tnere are so many men now living who earned this right to receive that power through their faithfulness in the spirit woul. Now they are given this power to see if they can be trusted with it, to see if they will appreciate it and magnify it according to the greatness which is within them. 1 believe this life is a period of testing such persons to see if they are worthy to be further magnified in the kingdom or family of God. The responsibility of the Melchizedek Priesthood, to speak in the name of Jesus Christ, is just as if He were here in person. What great responsibility that trust puts upon our shoulders! When we place our hands upon a persons head in the power of the Melchizedek Priesthood, it is as though the Lord were performing that sacred ordinance Himself. Theodore M. Burton The holy scriptures contain no proclamation more relevant, no responsibility more binding, no instruction more direct than the injunction given by the resurrected Lord as He appeared in Galilee to the 11 disciples. Said he: All power is given unto me in heaven and'in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Thomas S. Monso Action Underway A Knock At The Opportune Time In All-Chur- ch By ELDER RANDYL GESSEL Volleyball Play Mission Correspondent. BELO HORIZONTE, BRAZIL volleyball is making its second appearance in Salt Lake City in a year All-Chur- V The missionaries knocked on the door of the Newton Coelho home at an opportune time. The knock immediately followed a conversation between Mr. and Mrs. Coelho concerning religion and their agreement that with three small children they needed to belong to a church. Since our marriage we had felt the need of religion in our home. We had actively sought out a church that could satisfy our spiritual needs. We didnt find one but we continued our conversations, Mrs. Coelho later said. When I answered the door that night two young men said they were missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ, she added. The missionaries were invited in and gave their message and the family eagerly set a date for their return. As they left, I told them they must have been sent by the Lord. I have always felt that, Mrs. Coelho said. The big obstacle for Mr. Coelho was the the Word of Wisdom. I drank quite a bit and had been smoking since I was 12. I became rather skeptical and was not sure Mrs. I could keep the commandments, Coelho said. While the discussions were going on, Mrs. Coelho was hospitalized for about six weeks and without the support of his wife, Mr. Coelho was unable to give up smoking. Before Mrs. Coelho went into the hospital she asked for and was given a blessing by the elders. ,,i i 14-CH- URCH i i w WEEK ENDING The elders told me to pray during the day to prepare myself for the blessing.
