But in the U.S., the sport is considered somewhat of an oddity. And though the num. ,bel. of fans following the kicking specialists Utah follows the national trend t. is growing, in considering soccer players "peculiar." Soccer action in Utah culminated Tuesday in the enthralling prep state champion-...shiwhere final victory arrived via the ,powerful foot of Skyline High's forward Stuart Neel. He broke a 1 tie with four min.utes remaining in the battle with West. The state final game concluded a weeklong slate of kicking warfare for the title of 'Altah's champion "toesters." And through 'the week there were dozens of exciting games as teams from throughout the state contested for the crown. But though the matches were packed with the action, and no admission was charg spectators were few, averaging about thirty per game. Soccer in Utah has received little publicity. In many schools the teams have been regarded as "clubs," and team members been forced to purchase their own uni1.11orms, publicize their own games, and in some 'instances, even to coach themselves and ret their own practice schedules and training standards. Utah's high school soccer players have proved their dedication to their game.
