Show Moments In History 1838 One of the most brutal masOct. 30, Haims Mill, Ms. sacres in American history was enacted at the little town of Hauns Mill. Without warning, 240 horsemen, under Col. William O- - Jennings and Nehemiah Comstock, rushed upon the village and opened a fusillade of fire upon the 30 defenseless families. A dozen of the brethren who ran into the blacksmith shop for protection were caught In a death trap. The raiders poured volley after volley through the open door and wide cracks of the logs. Mien, women and children fleeing through the trees and brush were followed by showers of bullets, which killed and wounded several., The attackers then jumped from their horses and stripped what clothing they wanted from the dead and dying. They pillaged the homes and wagons of the members, before galloping off, shouting they would return and finish the job Scattered around the village and in the shop were 7 dead and a dozen or more wounded. - Elders John Murdock and Oct. 30, Sydney, Australia Charles W. Heslop ' Message i ' of Inspiration i m . 1902 V Milton Reed Hunter was born Oct. 25, Ilolden, Utah Oct. 25, 1902, in Holden, Utah, to John Edward and Margaret Teeples Hunter. His grandparents, converts to the Church in Scotland, were among Utahs early pioneers. Following graduation from Brigham Young University, Elder Hunter entered the teaching profession, transferring to the Church seminary work. He became an instructor at the LDS Institute of Religion at Utah State University, where he was serving when called to the First Council of the Seventy. He was sustained as one of the General Authorities at General Conference April 6, 1945, and set apart May 23, , 1945, at the age of 42.
