Show DESERET NEWS tcate Senate Candidate Speaks Out Carver to serve all of the people of these counties (District 25) e and be a senator. If elected I will diligently and honestly en- deavor to approach the issues for correct answers. I feel that law and order perhaps heads the list. W. Bryan Republican Candidate Utah Senate, Dist 25 POT full-tim- I feel that all goood American citizens should help shoulder responsibility in partici-- p a t i n g in governmental affairs and serving in capacities to further good administration in our state and counties. It is wL, this thought in mind that I have entered this race for the office of senator representing Juab, Tooele counties. It is my desire With the in- crease in crime I feel that legal avenues need to be explored to give our officers power and authority to exercise their rights. It seems that rights are being extended to the offender in many cases, where the officer doesnt have the authority to arrest him; or when the offender is tried, the court exonerates him. Also we read instances where officers are even killed in the performance of their duty and I believe they are entitled to some protection and adequate penalties imposed on those breaking the law. Drugs and our young people the illegal use of drugs has already become a major problem and the alarming rate with which it is increasing gives us cause for great concern. I think measures should be taken to stiffen the penalties on pushers and those ivho direct the drug traffic. Also programs should be provided to educate our young people, warning them of the dangeis iii the use of drugs. I believe we should encourage new industry in our areas but at the same time make provision for such industry to t cope with the problem of pollution. Many of oUr plants which provide jobs are spend- ing large sums and hiring experts in their fields to combat this problem. However I feel some legislation might be introduced to solve this problem. I would sponsor legislation on tax reform. I feel that our taxes might be curbed and the burden lightened just a little if our tax monies were dispersed more wisely and prudently. I feel that those who are Tuesday, October 20, 1770 elected to office owe an obligation to the people who elect them, and those people living in our areas should be visited by their representative from time to time in order to become cognizant of the problems confronting our people. If elected I pledge to honestly represent all the people of our counties without commitment to any special interest group, and to work diligently to bring about cond;tions in our localities where people can build homes and rear their famiiie under the be-- t environment.
