But Gregory Olsen a col- lege student and grocery store worker from Portland, Ore., said today he could not swear that Mitchell actually fired at the people in the ditch during the assault on the hamlet of My Lai two years ago. Olsen, who testified over the objections of Defense Attor- ney Ossie Brown, said some of the Vietnamese were dead and others were wounded when he first approached the ditch. " Olsen said he saw Mitcfiell talking with Lt. William Cal-le- y then approach the ditch and raise his rifle to a firing position. The Oregon student said he then heard rifle shots as Mitchell appeared to be changing his point of aim. But he said he could not be sure Mitchell was firing. Mitchell, 30, of St. Franch-villLa., is charged with assault to murder 30 Vietnamese civilians during a sweep by U.S. through My Lai March 16, 1968.
