Show V' - Utahs Oldest Cannery Still Going Strong Just eight years before .the turn of the century, the Woods Cross Canning Co. began its in the town of operation Woods Cross, 10 miles. from., Saif Lake City. At the time of Incorporation, Utah had not as yet become a state. During the 75 ensuing years Woods Cross operated plants in Woods Cross, Layton and Clearfield; they have now centralized all operations in Clearfield. General manager of Woods Cross Canning, Bountiful-born Robert E. Moss, who began his career at the age of 15 by nailing boxes, took over his present position in 1962 upon the retiremenrof his father, R. Alvin Moss, who started in the canning business at the age of 11 picking tomatoes. Mr. Moss grandfather, James A. Eldredge, was one of the 'principal stockholders when the business was found-e- by hand, the can was filled by principle of automation and is hand, and even the top of the today one of the most highly can was soldered into place recognized. & Today more and more fruits by hand.
