Show Wednesday May 29 1974 Page 7 Awards cap off military day demonstration by Valerie Hodgson for Student Life Neuberger Two-yea- Army ROTC held its annual President’s Review last Thursday during Military Day Events of the day included an awards ceremony and a demonstration by the Golden Knights Parachute Team University President Glen Taggart and Col Joseph Gappa Professor of Military Science awards presided at the were Awards ceremony presented to outstanding cadets based on scholastic achievement Students demonstrating ex- ceptional leadership abilities with possibilities for a great military career were also recognized Superior Cadet Awards for the freshman through senior classes were given respectively to Benita Brown John Hall Paul Miner and Karl Ward These were presented by Dean Snow Dean Dean Collier and Mayor Anderson r respectively ROTC Army Scholarships were presented to Bryan Hooker and Tom Muntz by Col Joseph Gappa American Legion ROTC Scholastic Awards were presented to junior cadet David Owens (silver) by Dr Edwin Peterson and graduate student Scott Orme (gold) cellence Award for superior achievement in Military History for the sophomore class Next year’s commander of the Pershing Rifles Ron Pearson was presented the Gappa Award by Dean Johnson for being elected for that position Caping of next years’ Sponsor Corps Plante by Eldon Hooper Commander Legion Post No 12 Junior Tim Timmons received the Sons of the American Revolution Medal from Col Doyle Rees Recipients of the Reserve Officer’s Association Military Merit MecfaTwere junior David Lucoski (silver) and Robert Raines senior (gold) These were both presented by Mr Ed Munson Mike Larsen was given the Association of the United States Army Military History Ex- - Commander by Dean Helen also took place Peggy Lund-stro- m President Taggart presented the President’s Medal to Cadet Commander Samuel W Davis Commander Davis has been in charge of the cadets since Fall Quarter The President’s Medal is for outstanding performance by a senior cadet during his four years in ROTC Commander the Davis also received traditional Group Commander’s Saber from Vice President Burtenshaw The awards were presented on the quad in the presence of the other ROTC cadets and Sponsors several distinguished guests including those who presented the awards and a number of USU students and faculty' After the ceremony was over the cadets were dismissed to surround the quad for a demonstration by the Golden Knights Parachute Team The cadets were to keep the audience off the quad to avoid any injuries in case of an accident on the part of the parachutists and to keep the jumpers from landing on any spectators The parachutists performed several spectacular jumps after which they spoke to members of the audience about their profession They answered questions and demonstrated how to pack their parachutes During this time several of the were treated to a and over ride Logan helicopter VIO’s j 1 s£ S°® ' ' s'v 4 75 photo by Tony Colli Military Day activities included a parachute demonstration by the Golden Knights Grade option changes The Faculty Senate voted Monday to allow individual departments to change the 71 hour limit that is now permitted for students to take on the pass D-- option They also voted to allow persons taking general education course?
