Show Wednesday May 29 1974 Page 3 Viewpoint Trust its a two-wa- street y By Grant fruitful In establishing relations between faculty and students the element of mutual trust is essential The faculty must trust the students motives and goals for at-tending the 'University and give students the freedom necessary to exercise options of their own choice The students must trust the faculty to grant student desires and opinions objective as all consideration ideas viable legitimate deserve of the Monday’s meeting faculty Senate severely affects the basis for this mutual trust at USU Faculty Senate Members assumed a “Big Brother” role that states “your desires are irrelevant what’s best” By moving the Drop Date back to the 25th day (from the 40th) and not only defeating but cutting short debate on the we know FRANKLY SPEAKING by phil frank ® LECTURE Protzman Hospital hassles Editor Student Life: 0 It has come to my attention during the last week that hospitals are not all they should be Last week I accompanied a friend of mine on an emergency visit to the hospital I was astounded by the treatment she received We stood for ten minutes filling out a card that was full of information the hospital should have already in their possession She had just been released earlier the day student initiated “Transcript Cleanup” the proposal Faculty Senate has shown blatent disregard for the viewpoints held by the vast majority of USU students (as ascertained by a scientific poll) In both cases the Student’s viewpoint had been well researched and ex- tensively refined before presentation The logic and facts presented in support of the student views were never refuted for the most part they were simply ignored To disregard a viewpoint simply because it doesn’t concord with your own and to refuse to even discuss the basis for that viewpoint is not the path to establishing mature relations of trust between students and faculty before She was hemorrhaging and was very upset as any normal person would be 'SORRY I IDONT RECALL YOUR NAME BY TO&I& IDENTIFY MY STUD£NT£ ' OF SNOR l(fS STYLE ©COLLEGE MEDIA None of us knew the extent of her injury and were very concerned about her condition I realize the hospital needs to have information such as: next of kin telephone number address type of insurance etc But she had filled this out a couple of days before A quick look for her record could have saved a lot of time and frustration Luckily it wasn’t as serious as it might have been But that’s not the point I’ve heard of many stories where people have died waiting at the desk of a hospital because of some hospital rule or SERVICES-BO- X CA94709 Y Grant Protzman 524-70-91- technicality Perhaps Excuses excuses Editor of Student Life Editor Student Life: Having been schooled in the theory of the democratic process we were under the impression that the ASUSU President was elected to his position as a representative of the student body Aside from receiving a boost to his ego the student body pre- sident also receives a substantial compensation for his services or lack of sercvices as is the case of our current student body president It seems that Mr Cummings could arrange his schedule so as to be’ in attendence at meetings where policies effecting all members of the studentbody are discussed and acted upon Examples of such meetings may be those pertaining to grading policy We realize the demands on our studentbody president but at the same time we feel that in the future as a token gesture a representative of Mr Cummings could be present Perhaps as the newfound privileges with such items as game room and movie passes become more mundane he will be able to devote more of his time to doing the job he was elected to do We anxiously await the forthcom’ multitude of excuses and commend Mr Cummings in advance for his vivid imagination His constituency Randall J Merrill 528-78-41- 96 C Steven L Burton Marshall SIfford must make a request to initiate certificate checked for what his Registration hassles 528-82-55- 28 558-82-85- 34 During our stay here at USU which won’t be terminated for some time yet we have come upon a problem that not only bothers us but is inconvienient for many USU students During the hours of 11:45 till 1 : 15 the registration office room 6 in Main is closed while the employees take their lunch breaks This would be all well and good except for the fact that a lot of students have only that time out from their schedules in order to turn things in The office closes pretty early and it’s hard to get in before then Since the office is there to serve the students we feel that it would be more convenient to implement a staggered lunch schedule for the employees so that the office might remain open during that time period We’re sure this- -
