Show STUDENT LIFE 178 the associate elected from anioi members to confer with the officers of the league The officers are thoroughly representative of all women of the college including the Sorosis the Literary Society and those who are not members of any The president of organization is elected by the memthe league bers from their own number The league is so organized as to perpetuate itself and it is hoped that in after years its usefulness will be extended to the incoming women students who find themselves among strangers in a strange town The members propose to meet such persons and to help them to become well established in their college home Thus there will be from the outset a feeling of unity and comradeship among all classes and ranks of students and the new student will find at her disposal in adjusting herself to her very new life the knowledge that others have gained from longer experience in the college community When her sympathy with the league has been thus aroused she will join in strengthening and enlarging it and the Women’s League will have become a permanent factor in the Agricultural College of Utah Mrs P A Yoder Military Ball That the military department de- serves congratulation for the successful way in which the militarv party was conducted no one who at tended the ball and participated in the pleasures of the evening can doubt Our military parties have always been characterized by the good hearty social treats they provide and this one not only sustains the reputation of the department hut it establishes a new and brilliant record and indicates that hereafter all will look forward with pleasure to the time for the annual ball In spite of stormy weather and eight or ten inches of newly fallen snow a large crowd was in attendance The lancers were glad after their arrival that it was storming Pleasant weather would have brought out a larger crowd and the room would have been filled to overflowing Even as it was toes were crushed and dire collisions took place but no such difficulties could hinder the dancers from thoroughly enjoying themselves The evening’s program began with the usual grand march led by Captain and ‘Mrs Stver ‘The captain was arrayed in full dress uniform Under the brilliant arc light the gold sparkled from the embroidery of his shoulder straps to the point of the long sword which hung at his side Immediately behind him were the cadet officers with their partners and behind them followed a long line of cadets in uniform students and visitors No pains were spared in the effort to make the hall look well and to please all that came in Unique decorations were made in various parts of the room by arranging guns and swords in attractive combina- -- |
