Show Years In Court 15 "!' piirv gr LaJeunesse - Becomes Mrs. Benton ' 'Most Interesting Years Of My Life, Tes Murraylte Leone Oliver, Court Clerk Take Vows the Murray District Circuit that court from Judge Arthur Christean. Leone Oliver, clerk of court and Judge L. H. Griffiths, who is now judge, was City Attorney. The people, as a whole, remain the same in the city offices, Leone laughs, but their titles certainly do change. When I first came to the city offices, LaRell Muir, who is now our Mayor, was chief clerk of the court. There were two other clerks at that time, Vera Stark and Elaine Nielson (Campbell). Alvin Wahlquist was clerk of the court and recorder. Upon his retirement in 1971, Mr. Muir became recorder and clerk of the court. Changes came thick and fast in those years of Murrays growth. The changes came in every department, but I worked in the Court, and it was there I noticed the changes most. Jay Holt came to Murray from the District court as chief clerk, James Sawaya became District Court Judge and Lee Griffiths became Judge of the Murray Court. Merrill Hansen became Murray City Attorney. Every office at City Hall was bulging at the seams during those years, but again I noticed it in the Leone Oliver, clerk of Murray Court. area. Walls were knocked Fifth Circuit court and the entire facility was moved to the Palmer Complex at 5258 Pinemont Dr., and another judge, Arthur G. Christean was added. Now, tells this well known Murray lady, we even have two courts, civil and criminal, which not only makes the job much more interesting, but the confusion of falling all over each other in the old city hall is over with. The Murray area is like a well-rea- d book to this vital woman who has made the Murray court such a part of her life. She was born in Murray on Easter Sunday, the second child of Frank and Lenora Dorton Adamson. Her great-grea- t grandparents came to the area as early Mormon pioneers and the families have lived here ever since. 1 met my husband, Thomas, in the seventh grade and I knew right then and there that someday the two of us of the coming cases in ted 12 feet 3 inches which was the very best in the state at that time. Carole Lee and her family broke of living in the family tradition Salt Lake valley, and lived for over 13 years in San Francisco, but now are here again. In addition to our own family, we have 22 lovely grandchildren and who are three the delight of our lives, laughs this charming lady. I wouldnt have missed one day of working at the courts, she tells us. By being a bystander in the court I have learned much of how our penal system works and actually, how interesting it really is. Of course, she continues, when you work in the court you train yourself to be very objective about the cases you are hearing. We clerks ask no questions and do not discuss the cases among ourselves either. Its true that sometimes I wonder if all the truth is coming out and, sometimes, I may look at the case with different eyes, but when this happens I have to remind myself that I am not an attorney and I am not a judge. I do not have that training. The attorneys and the Judge know the law, and 1 dont. Thats why we never discuss a case either in the office or at home.
