A wedding breakfast followed the ceremony at Trolley Gardens and a reception given at the Lion house honored them that evening The bride is the daughter of Mrs Gerda M. Williams of Granger and Paul Dayton Davis of Sierra Vista, Arizona. She graduated from Granger high and Weber State where she graduated with honors with her degree in dental hygiene At Weber State she was active in LDSSA and the Institute Chorale and she is currently the president of the Salt Lake Dental Hygienists Association Ah 9itftwafe But Doitgetm Sutjccl In view of the current controversy over the use of tampons - particularly the variety - and their possible relationship to the con dition known as toxic shock syndrome, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists offers the following recommendations for women who are concerned about their continuing usage of tampons Based upon the scientific information available at this time, the recommendations are: tinue tampon use, and consult her phv sician immediately These recommendations are the result of the examination of this issue by the College s Committee on Gynecologic Practice Overall, it is felt that the scientific data relating to this subject are still not complete, the number of occurrences of toxic shock syndrome is small when compared to the number of women using tampons (at least 70 percent of the menstruating female population), and an actual relationship between tampons and toxic shock syndrome has not been definitively established This last statement is particularly significant, in view of the fact that of the 300 cases of toxic shock sy ndrome reported only five percent occurred in men Of the 95 percent of women who experienced TSS, five percent were not menstruating at the time While it is recognized that an association has been established between toxic shock sy ndrome super-absorbe- cause-and-effe- In general, women need not stop using tampons; however, it would be prudent, at present, to discontinue the use of the newly-develope- Mr. Mark and Ella Pope are pictured surrounded by theirs. How can this be one might ask? Well, it happend this way. Ella Wilkins Durfee was widowed after 19 years of marriage to Morris Durfee When he died Ella was left with five children to raise. Mark Pope was also left alone, after 23 years of marriage, with children to raise after his wife, Edna Dudley, passed away when giving birth to their 11th child. Fate and love took their course and on October 11, Ella Wilkins Durfee became the wife of Mark Pope and the impossible task of raising sixteen children began Fourteen of the sixteen children were still living at home, which was a house with one bathroom, in Vernal, Utah. Mr. Pope worked for a local car dealership at the beginning of their marriage, but found that raising a family that size took more than he could earn doing that. So, when the opportunity presented itself, Mark purchased a small grocery store in Vernal. He called it Popes Store and the entire Pope family was involved in the management and running of the store. The family has prospered and grown and the children are all married. Six of the children have filled missions for the LDS Church, all of them were married in the LDS Temple and all of them went on to some form of higher education. and Mrs. Pope moved to Granger in 1968 and lived in the Granger 17th ward were Mrs. Pope has served as Relief Society President and has been active in a number of other church activities. Mr. Pope has been stake financial clerk and they both now work in the Salt Lake Temple. The Popes will be celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary, with their 16 children, 76 grandchildren and 11 with an open house at the Granger 3rd ward on October 11, from 7 to 9 p m. Their children are Agnes Pope Lewis of Dingle, Idaho; Phillip Pope of Vernal, Valda Pope Dietrich and Reed Durfee of Salt Lake; Larry Pope of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Wayne Pope of North Salt Lake; Loraine Durfee McConkie, Ruby Pope Marda, Grant Durfee, Carolyn Durfee Thacker and JoAnn Durfee Palmer, all of West Valley; Rose Pope Owens of Livermore, California; Russell Pope of Kearns; Ilene Pope Rands of Las Vegas; Ross Pope of Kearns and Mark Jay Pope of Logan.
