Show i fe v.v f r r r r X f t will be the second Utah dil& i'fl outlet for Nordstrom, which also has a store in the Crossroads Plaza. By J983, plans call for another to be opened in Ogdens downtown center. A complete renovation of the former Auerbach location is planned by the new occupants. Consider The Consequences Before Climbing Aboard Bandwagon Bearing Tax Proposals ,y.y CX m There are two organizations that &S are among the staunchest opponents g;;;i of these measures. They are the Sx PTA and the Utah Taxpayers Assn, gxi Both are dedicated to a better way of :: life for all. UTA has proven over the to be a solid watchdog on g;;;i taxes. Its opposition to this measure pi; should send up a red flag to those p;i ; who look upon it as the ultimate ans- - While public opinion polls seem to indicate that a majority of Utahns favor both Initiative Proposal A and B, the Green Sheet hopes that in the privacy of the voting booth on Nov. 4, those casting ballots will give careful consideration to the impact of those proposals. Proposal A deals with the removal of the state's portion of the sales tax on food. While more of an argument can be made for that measure than Proposal B, it is quite likely that while it would cost the state $60 million, consumers would realize absolutely nothing from it. Those in the grocery industry warn that problems brought about by the need to continue collecting the t combined local option and Utah Transit Authority taxes, coupled with the fact that many items in the grocery store are not tax exempt, is likely to result in higher prices at the checkstand. It is Proposal B, however, that could create havoc in local government and public education. It is patterned almost identically to California's Proposition 13, but as a wer. The PTA recognizes that quality education is no accident. Yes, it does cost money. But its benefits cannot be calculated. Public education is available to all who would make use of the system. While some make other choices, all benefit from the fact that such a system exists. Some of the "side benefits" of Proposition B could be more double All of these considerations need to be made before the ballot is cast. However, failure of one or both of these measures should not let the Legislature off the hook. The issue of government spending and waste is a real one and must be dealt with. In the meantime, let us remember that inflation and growth has had an impact on government as well as personal income. A wise decision on Nov. 4 could be a giant step forward . . . , with an eye for the little things Six Green Sheet area residents have been eleeted to various offices in the Homebuilders Association of Greater Salt Lake. The Green Sheet is the first to admit that there may be need for some tax relief, especially among those on fixed incomes. But the fact that Utah ranks 36th among the 50 states in property tax burden seems to indicate that the vast majority of us can continue to pay for what we're asking government to provide. One option open to the committee, however, is to increase the size of the House. But time is the major handicap now. Because of the delays, it appears unlikely that the legislature will be able to deal with reapportionment in the 1981 regular session. And the 1982 budget session is seen as too short to deal with the complicated issue. That leaves the legislators with possibility of facing a special session to work exclusively with reapportionment, possibly in the summer of 1981, members noted. In another matter, Rep. D.
