Show THE VALLEY VIEW NEWS Thursday, July 11, 1963 tor, the nurse, and all other public services? All of these services have made our country the greatest place in the world to live. Dont be fooled into believing that any public issue settled by either pressure or force is ever to the best interest of the public. Our past history will bear this statement out. Sumthins Cookin by T. R. Brown Many times each week as I read the newspapers and their editorials, study the comments and writing of what I consider to be the middle of the road writers and commentators I get more concerned as the rope of advanced civilization ties us tighter and tighter; and I get even more concerned when I see there seems to be less and less fight in Mr. and Mrs. John Citizen for the protection and demand of their rights. Unless we change a great deal and do different than we have in the last 10 years the hands of complacency will choke us into oblivion. of The national organization orstate or local the not teachers, ganizations, it seems will decide if the children of Utah will or will not go to school this fall. The local and state teachers organizations, and the national organization likewise, shout louder and louder of their dire needs, troubles and abuses. Do you know as a citizen what the teachers really want? Have you made any study to know what they are asking, or if what they are asking is possible within the boundaries of our present laws? I have read a good many thousand words and listened to any number of persons on T.V. pertaining to the subject of Utah Education and I have yet to this day been able to arrive at an absolute conclusion of what the demands are. The one point I am sure on is that here again a minority group are bound and determined to force their will on the majority. Whether their cause is just, needed or otherwise, not one demand should be met until the national organization pulls out and lets us in our state, and with our elected officials settle our own problems with our teachers and educators. It might be well for us to consider if a national organization with the help of a local organization, be the majority of local willing or unwilling, can dictate what and how the children will be taught. If so we are surely looking down the road to the loss of normal law and order. If the national organization of teachers can dictate all the policies Page 5 of education, if Mr. Hoffa and his teamsters can decide if you and I eat or work, if he desires that the trucks will move when and if he and his controlled group desire. If the doctor will only alleviate your pain, assist the angel of birth with her tasks, remove the organ from your body, in other words be the difference between life and death for you and yours only if his great organization, the American Medical Associations says so. If when you call for the help of the police when you have been robbed, your women folks are threatened with rape, you and yours may lie bleeding and dying by the roadside, they cannot come because Mr. Big has decided they will strike. And these wonderful abused underpaid warriors of freedom that protect and assist us in a thousand ways more than mentioned, then Why cant Mr. Big organize them and their firemen buddies with equal rights with teachers, the doc- al I doubt if there are any Utah citizens who are not in sympathy with better conditions for our teachers or better facilities for them to teach in and with, but the methods that are being employed to obtain them are surely not in the best interest of us all.
