Location and details will be announced One reason for the change in policy is the schools attempt to make sure that everything is in order for Westminster to join the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) this upcoming school year. The policy change is not working against students, rather it is in place to actually help the students and the school. In the past, the school has been known to handle everything in house, meaning the school handles situations without the use of outside forces. However, in order for tuition prices not to rise, the school needs to enforce the rules that are being broken. Not only would underage students be breaking the policy, but it can make it seem like the school is not cooperating with the law by intentionally withholding information. Westminster is planning on working closely with the SLCPD. Blake Smith, Interim Director of Campus Patrol, and Trisha Teig, Assistant Dean of Students, said, The school will be attempting to create an M.O.U. (Memorandum of Understanding) this year with the Salt Lake City Police Department in order to show them that we are willing to work together with them closely. If the school does not comply with the law that requires the school to work together with the SLCPD, then the school can be penalized. This would result in tuition prices increasing due to fees that would be charged to the school. Open bars will still be allowed at on campus events, however there is a change in policy for how the alcohol can be supplied for events. Instead of people bringing their own alcohol, the school must have vendors for the event in order to eliminate the risk of underage drinking. Students should be careful with what they do during their extracurricular activities and be aware that with the policy change, consequences will be enforced. |
