He is the most interesting man at Westminster College. First year student, Jordan Romero from Big Bear Lake, California is known for being the youngest person to climb Mount Everest. He is now continuing his lifes journey here at Westminster College. Going to Westminster helps you think outside the box, said Romero, an environmental studies major. In fourth grade, Romero was inspired to climb the summits from a mural in his schools hallways depicting the tallest mountains on the seven continents. His first climb of the Seven Summits was Mount Kilimanjaro in 2006 and the last was Vinson Massif in 2011. In 2010, Romero became the youngest person at age 13 to climb Mount Everest. With school being a top priority, Romero continued to do homework while climbing the tallest mountain on Earth. Later that year, he published a book about his journey titled The Boy Who Conquered Everest: The Jordan Romero Story. After Romero accomplished his goals of climbing the Seven Summits, he then published his second book, No Summit Out of Sight: The True Story of the Youngest Person to Climb the Seven Summits. While achieving great heights at a young age, Romero has big goals for Westminster in these next few years. He hopes to get groups of students and faculty involved with developing countries, specifically Malawi, to educate the importance of sustaining an environment. Romero also has plans to speak to schools about goal setting and getting the community together to improve its local environment. Romero wants to use what he learns from his courses, such as service learning in Salt Lake and leadership for social change, to be a positive ambassador for the community. Romero is also a field coordinator for the colleges organic garden and is involved with the ski and snowboard club. Changing the world starts here in our local community, Romero said. 18-year-- old Jordan Romero at Westminster College.
