Show THE FORUM - MARCH 13 21,2012 4-- O Woot Pongsawan, 32, is the owner of the Ekamai Thai restaurant. Since Ekamais opening, he has become popular in the downtown community. His success was last even recognized by City Weekly. His restaurant was given a Salt Lake Magazine dining award for best Thai restaurant in 2011. Pongsawan was born and raised in Thailand and then wound up in Utah. He came to the states when he was 19 to go to school at Snow College. He was the only Thai student and only spoke three words of English. The only words I knew were hello and f said. off Pongsawan Pongsawan didnt particularly enjoy school. While he went to school, year he worked all over the valley in Thai restaurants. He enjoyed the business but didnt like working under other people. So he took a chance and decided to open his own place. I just wanted to try something different. I just want to see how far I can make it with this business because, why not? Pongsawan said. Pongsawan said that his business is more than just food. It is about having people like him and their experience at his restaurant. He explained that it is a challenge to get people to like you but its something he gladly accepts. You can make someone hate you with just one finger. It takes effort to make them like you, Pongsawan said. |
