The incident proved to be a false alarm, but it also proved to be a definite wake up call to Rezai when emergency vehicles were unable to get into the residential parking lot because of illegally parked cars in the lot and along the village roadway. The rerouting took an extra three to five minutes. What if someone was really hurt? said Rezai. Three to five minutes could mean the difference between life and death. Regulations for the residential village lot are more stringent than for the other parking lots on campus. In this lot an additional parking permit is required. Along with the regular Westminster permit a green R sticker, issued to upper class standing residents, is required. Rezai warns that last years red R permits are no longer valid and will result in citations. This lot has faced increased congestion because more permits were issued for it this year. The current procedure for violations is the rule. three-strik- e The repeated offender will be cited three times. The third violation will be accompanied by a bright orange towing notice with an impound notice number assigned to it. If the repeated offender is caught the fourth time the vehicle is towed. Each citation is logged in the computer system so that we make sure everything is done fairly, accurately and con-sistend- y, said Rezai. We towing cars; its very unpleasant and a lot of paper work. dont like across the country who have it a lot worse than we do, said Rezai, who said that at most campuses, students pay for parking privileges without the guarantee of ever getting a spot to park, and those lucky enough to find a spot may have to park far away. These four locations, along with many others, are adorned with a bust of George Washington. The bronze sculpture is the artwork of Avard T. Fairbanks, the founding dean of the University of Utahs College of Fine Arts. The bust was originally located at the Salt Lake City International Airport to celebrate the nations bicentennial. And was later moved to George Washington University in Washington D.C.. Replicas can be seen in cities and on campuses throughout the United States and parts of Europe. College. The bust was given to the school at the beginning of Stocks presidency but didnt appear on campus until last spring. Steve Morgan, Vice President and Treasurer said it took a while for the statue to arrive and then placement was delayed because other projects took precedence. He also said the bust was ultimately put in place because Stock wanted to see it completed before she left. Some fail to see the relevance of the statue. Here are a few things, for those that dont care Tor the statue, to consider. One, George Washington is one of the founding fathers. It is he and M others like him that established the freedoms we have which make it possible for us to pursue education. Two, it could have been worse. In 1996 Trachtenberg presented a large bronze statue of a hippopotamus to the George Washington University graduating class of 2000. The statue sits in the center of their campus and is said to bring good luck to those that touch its nose.
