Although both squads remain in fifth place in the Frontier Conference, this tournament was the best of the year for both teams. The men improved their team score by 18 strokes since their previous tournament in Helena, Mont., in which they shot a 910. With record combined a score of 892, the Griffins continue to improve each week. 54-ho- le n However, the squad is stuck in fifth place amongst the Frontier Conference. Head Coach Daron Park continues to be optimistic We are still in the hunt. Only a few strokes will five-ma- separate third from sixth place in the standings this spring, he said. We have been consistent. Now we must take our consistency to the next level and have a breakout second half of the season. The womens side enjoyed their highest finish of the year at fifth place in the conference. Although much of the team is filled with inexperienced players with high scores, junior Rachel Miranda has individually been phenomenal the entire first half of the season. Despite playing with a nagging ligament injury in her wrist, Miranda posted scores of 246, 250 and, most recendy, 248 in her first three tournaments. Overall Miranda stands fifth in the individual rankings among Frontier Conference golfers. Mirandas first half gives her a chance to have a great season in the spring, according to Park. We are very excited for Rachel, admitted Park. As long as she can get healthy by the time the spring season comes, she has a chance to go to the National Tournament. Both the men and women will take the winter off getting practice in whenever weather will allow them to do so. The Westminster golf team will begin their second half of the season in April of 2003 in Lewiston, Idaho. 54-ho- le fifth in the Frontier Conference despite a nagging wrist injury.
