I feel that if I am vice president again I will be able to help facilitate ASWC turning into more of a business atmosphere where students are taken seriously by the faculty and staff, I will also be able to increase attendance at activities and continue to give the students, as a whole, a wide range of activities. Throughout this year I was available to the students for ideas, complaints, and suggestions. I learned this year how to deal with problems that arouse pertaining to Senate, something that I knew nothing about last year, I have also taken your ideas and tried to implement them: I feel that I need to continue to find ways to include the different schools and the different types of people who attend class here. mmj know with my hard work and patience that 1 gave to my job this year, I will be able to improve on what I has begun i.e. publicity variety, and availability. I would like to do another calendar for the students: I felt that this was a very helpful calendar for letting you, the student know when activities were. I would like to do more activities that are suitable for parents to bring their children to because not everyone is single without kids. So there should be at least 2 or 3 activities on campus that get the students involved, like the Velcro Wall, Laugh or Lose, Blizzard of Bucks, and coming the Easter Egg Hunt, the EVES and Jack Gladstone. The activities on campus are the ones most attended to because everyone needs a study break some time. mrnAs far as Senate goes I would like to see more Forums for the students. I feel that once this gets rolling it will give the students an opportunity to voice their opinions, not just about the problems in their school but problems they have with activities as well. ss&Biit in order to do that I need more student ideas and involvement To create changes and improve Wesminsters environment, everyone must get involved with the issues at hand. I want to continue to be the person on campus that is not only helpful to other students; but show them there can be a wonderful social life where students can create long lasting friendships and receive an excellent education. : Beth Ann Muraski Vice President Emilie Rawson: Honesty, dependability, and kindness Life is full of people trying to be the same or like someone else. Westminster College is a place where people are free to be whatever they want, do their own thing, be an individual. This is what I love about going to school here, meeting new creative and different human beings. My motivation to run for President is the love and respect I have for the students; faculty and staff that make up Westminster College. I have the desire to make student government a respectable organization. I care about the students here and want everyone to succeed. This past year I have worked with the Executive Council of ASWC. I paid close attention to the problems that arose, both the ones that were not always handled well and also the ones that were. Student government has lost its respectability over the past years. It is time for a change. Student government should be a place where students can voice their opinions to open ears and know that an effort will be made and something will be done. Right now it is not like that. What we as students need d to new ideas, I am that type of person. We need now is someone that is someone with the knowledge of the past and willingness to change for the better and make a difference. This past year I have spent numerous hours researching Westminsters history of student government and I know what needs to change. I have the qualifications and experience necessary to be President. I have experience as a Business Senator (being a liason for my constituents), Parliamentarian (maintaining records of all clubs and organizations on campus and x keeping order in senate meetings), Rules Committee Chair (organizing meetings of all club presidents and heading the committee to write rules for the senate) Student Life Committee member (approving new club constitutions), Club Fair Chair (organizing all clubs and organizations to participate in the fair); Student Activities Commission (SAC) Chair (organized Childrens Carnival; the Winter Carnival, helped with the dances. Oblique Games), as well as a member of various clubs on campus. My club involvement includes PBL, a business club (Parliamentarian) Student Alumni Association, Westminster Players (actress, lighting, sound operator) and TheatreWorks West. I have the knowledge of what people in these clubs need. This past year I have spent many hours setting up files and keeping records of the clubs, activities and events on campus. In the past no one has cared enough to keep records of anything. I have spent many long days in the office listening to people and their complaints regarding student government, as President I would have more authority to help andor fix the problems they are having. As President I would try to set a good example as a figure head, someone that people knew they could sit down and chat with. Being responsible for such a variety of organizations I have learned three extremely important traits in being a leader; honesty, dependability, and kindness. I consider every student my friend and would help them whenever I could. organization as a whole can be influenced by and reflect its leaders attitude; Westminster College is in desperate need of a student leader that is willing to be one of the little guys, to deal with the problems at hand, and to be enthusiastic about their responsibilities. I am that person. open-minde- Emilie Rawson Parliamentarian, Business Senator March 9, 1993 forum Page 7 |
