A piano recital by Clayton Williams Jeff Burrows Forum staff writer March is full of lunacy and superstitions; coming in full of warnings and wonders, it signifies the coming of spring and the end of winter. We have all heard the old saying about the lamb and the lion. Another is, April borrowed from March three days, and they were ill. This refers to the first three days of April, which are generally rough and blustery like March. Another old superstition refers to the first three days of March as blind days because they are unlucky. March i s also the beginni ng of the N CAA basketball tournament known as March Madness. I know March is a strange and superstitious month because my sister was bom in March, on March 15, no less, but that is an older brothers opinion. The 15th of March is a day people have been warned aboutfor centuries. The soothsayers warned Julius Caesar to Be ware the Ides of March. This was the day Caesar was assassinated in 44 BC. He suffered more than 20 stab wounds from men he believed to be his friends. We can all recall Caesars immortal words when he discovered his closest friend Brutus was involved in the plot, Et tu. Brute? as he fell dead. Strange things seem tohappen in March. I am sure the University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV) basketball team and their coach, Tark the Shark, will attest to the strangeness of the month of March. UNLVs undefeated season and chance to repeat as NCAA national champions disintegrated before their very eyes in March. Our own campus is not immune to the strange happenings of the month ofMarch.
