Show Fresh Activities Planned for Spring 1991 Response to the Talk Back issue of a shift in the focus of ASWC activities to a more rounded approach involving speakers, musicians and family activities in addition to two major dances has been mixed. The majority of the coupons that we received wanted to see a more traditional mix of activities including an increased family orientation in picnics, Lagoon day and movie nights. Some respondents questioned if any of the dances were necessary. Others see formal dances as a return to high school Prom Night because Its time to have fun beyond Some students wanted to retain the Founders Day Dance because this dance is the best one along with Halloween and the Beach Party. In order to answer the concerns of the non-tradition- al bee-bopping- ." students, this years ASWC has taken a bold step in the reform of Westminster activities. Because of the large majority of students on campus, this be made to balance the will shift a spring, old traditional activities with a fresh, wider range of appeal. The Founders Day Dance in April has non-tradition- al been canceled. This, however, will not necessarily be the rule for the future. Next years activity commission may decide to cancel the Fall Formal and include Founders Day. With the money originally budgeted for that dance, music artists are scheduled for coffeehouse entertainment throughout spring semester. We hope that this kind of entertainment will become a tradition on campus drawing comedians, acoustical singers and cultural events. In addition to St. Patricks Day babysitting and the Childrens Easter Egg Hunt, these activities will balance the Beach Party that is a traditional crowd pleaser being and the Spring Fling which draws students from all sections of campus. The first change in activities will occur on Feb. 14 when Phillip Scott Bryan will appear in Syme Lounge performing what folk music with pop he calls influences. A few of his influences have been James Taylor, Paul Simon and Dan Fogelberg which have given him a very laid back feeling and he relies heavily on the acoustic guitar and vocal harmony. Watch for more coffeehouse style entertainment to follow in spring semester. neo-suburb- an Thank youforyourinput.
