Droz, who has a history of being a top contender of past meets on the first go around the opening day and a fade out the second day, came through with his first major tournament victory since becoming a pro. Not since he was an amateur divoter some seven years ago when he won the Ely, Nevada Open has Bob tasted the sweetness of victory. He also won the Idaho Open as an amateur. The playoff in the Provo Open was the fourth in the last five years and one of Bobs opponents, Joey Bonsignor of the Alpine Club, has been involved in three of them, winning only once. Bonsignore, is a Carbon County native who was reared in Grand Junction where he got his start as a golfer. Droz, who is noted for his ad libs and off course antics, has always ran into trouble the second day of tournaments he has entered. He reversed the procedure this year at Provo, however, by shooting a 72 Saturday and then came back to play brilliant golf over 20 holes Sunday. Actually Bobs performance Saturday was every bit as good as Sunday if you erase one hole, the 14th. He took seven strokes there as he hit a wire three consecutive times some 40 feet above, 90 yards from the green. His fourth shot landed right next to the pin for a short d put. It was this same par four hole that caused Bobs only bogey in Sundays play. This hole also bugged Bonsignore Sunday and forced him into the playoff. 470-yar- The victory was a long time in coming for the popular Carbon pro and well deserved. sss The new Carbon Babe Ruth baseball league appears to be settled down to fine season ahead after an early opening on the dusty windswept, still uncompleted new field in Northeast Price. All baseball and softball activity in the city can be played at the one complex once it is completed. Fred Bosone, Helper; Gary Mills, Spring Glen; and Wedge post-seaso- Quamberg, Green River.
