Show PffMM twmmwwww Price, Utah Thursday, December 23, 1969 7 retirement ends 51 year tenure as town treasurer -- ITLE GATE caMsr as treasurer A of the town f of Castle Gate will come an end on Dec. 31 for Earl Durrant. Mr. Durrant will retire from that post which during the past 15 years also has been consolidated with the town clerk position. Mr. Durrant, a native of American Fork, first came to Carbon County in 1913 as a telegrapher for the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad at Castle Gate. In June of 1916 he joined the Utah Fuel Company at Sunnyside as a clerk and in 1917 be returned to Castle Gate for the same company in the same capacity. He became chief clerk at Castle Gate in March of 1920. He retired from that position in September of 1960. In April of 1950 Utah Fuel Co. was acquired by Kaiser Steel Corp. including its properties at Sunnyside, Castle Gate and Clear Creek. In 1951 Independent Coal & Coke Co. acquired the Castle Gate and Cleai Creek properties from Kaiser Through these changes of ownership Mr. Durrant continued at chief clerk at Castle Gate. He served on the Carbon County Board of Education for 19 years, six of these as president. The Durrant Elementary Schoo' " in Price bears his name. He was ' . a member of the Castle Valley Knife and Fork Club and served BENNY CISNEROS as president.
