Breznick, Carbon County volunteer bonds chairman, today commented on the new five percent interest rate for savings bonds. He stated the new higher rate announced by President Nixon ' makes savings bonds a better buy than before and will certainly benefit the residents of our communities who have been regular bond buyers through the payroll savings plan or purchasers at their banks. The 5 percent interest rate applies to all outstanding Series E and H bonds sold- on or after June 1, 1969, if held to maturity. All outstanding E and H bonds also will benefit from the interest increase beginning with the first semiannual interest period starting on or after June 1, 1969. Further the maturity period for Series, E! Bonds has been reduced from seven years to five years and 10 months while H bonds continue to mature in 10 years. Freedom shares or savings notes which have been sold in combination with E kinds since will be removed May 1, 1967 from sale effective June 30, 1970.
