In response to Farm Bureau and requests from the dairy industry. Secretary of Agriculture Edward Madigan has announced a series of directives designed to help alleviate the financial stress being experienced by dairy producers. The directives emphasize exporting dairy products and ted.ugingfre impact of the Commod ity Credit Corporation (CCC) inventories on current prices. The actions ordered should ing to UFB: Ken Ashby, president of the Make advance purchases this year for next years school lunch and other domestic feeding programs; Temporarily suspend the resale of CCC cheese and nonfat dry milk stocks so that inventory is isolated form the market while prices are at or near the support private level; Make dairy products fully export credit or food aid donauon programs; Expand the Dairy Export Incentive Program (DEIP) to include cheese as an eligible export accomplish the following, accord- - PS(iQQlI Dump trucks and backhoes are replacing campers and boat trailers at Starvation State Park, as major renovation work continues in the parks marina area. The plan calls for the development of four beaches at the reservoir and designation of an off highway vehicle (OHV) riding area, will provide visitors with a higher quality experience, according to park manager Rick Redmon. When improvements are complete, park visitors will find a new campground with pull through sties, a day use area, sandy beach, resurfaced roads, new picnic tables and grills, 70 additional shade trees, additional harbor space in the marina, new lawns, a new water system, and a pavilion in the group area. The renovation project made possible through funding from the Bureau of Reclamation, should be completed by late summer. In the meantime visitors will still be able to camp and boat but not without some inconvenience. Provide risk protection to the private exporters who may be harmed by unpredictable future actions of the CCC to adjust the relative price support between butter and nonfat dry milk; Expand the use of dairy products by including nonfat dry milk as an eligible product for donation. We in no way want to encourage preferential treatment for dairymen, said Ashby. But many of these dairymen are under severe d stress and this will buy them some of the time they need to survive until Congress can finalize what we hope will be an equitable and effective dairy program. Due to construction, the main beach area will be closed. Also advantage - not Utahs residents should not perceive the states large family size as a curse, but rather as a growing workforce to take them safely into the year 2000 and beyond, according to Richard Eyre in a Utah State University Convocation recently. Eyre, the author of the book, Utah in the Year 2000: Choice or Chance,- - said his book is about families and what needs to be done Unless we about Utahs future. get busy doing the things we need to do to strengthen the family, the year 2000 is not going to be a very happy time, he added. Eyre said that Utah ranks either first or last in most areas. First in such areas a birth rate, family size and taxed income. Last in areas such as class size, personal wages and dollars spent per studcnL Eyre added that even though Utah is lower than most states for persona income, the state spends a higher percentage of that income on education. With the higher taxes and larger families, many Utahns feel this is a hopeless situation. Eyre says that the large family size is an asset a growing native work force," with the potential to is Trustworthy Specials brought to you by Gunnison Implement 17.00 m ELECTRIC 4 TO 12 CUP DRIP COFFEE MAKER. Eyre suggests there are many other ways to deal with problems such as school financing, mass transit and human services. One such way is what he calls rounds up. When someone buys an item in a store and has a small amount of coin change coming back, the clerk simply asks if the patron participates in rounds up. If the answer is yes, a button on the cash register is pushed and the change is kept and collected for the schools. Eyre said he believes many of our present day problems could be resolved by a little creating thinking. It is this creative thinking and the acting upon it that he feels can make the difference in Utahs future. To Eyre, the most important decisions are not made in the White House, but rather in the home. FREEDOM R.V. &SPORTS CENTER 396 South Main - Gunnison, Utah - Phone 528-724- 4 m ) IM. |
