The purpose of this meeting was for employees to evaluate the health insurance provided by the city. A number of employees were concerned that the current plan partially paid for by the city was tak ing from $4 1 to $1 78 monthly from their wages, depending on family size and coverage of the employee. Two employees said that the amount taken from their wages made it difficult to pay monthly bills. The current health insurance is under Utah Local Government Trust. As of July 1, this insurance is going up. A presentation was Dont forget the upcoming Cancer Screening for Women, to be held Thursday, May 30, from 1 0 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Salina Second-Thir- d Ward BUilding, 87 South, 100 East Tests will be given by specially trained nurses, and will include Pap test, pelvic and breast exams, and blood pressure check. The Briggs Leavitt plan has been available since last September. The city attorney was present at the presentations. A discussion followed on the consideration of the two plans. The employees agreed that they preferred to remain with the existing insurance carrier. It was the recommendation of the city attorney and council personnel present that the city should pay the complete health insurance coverage. Karren reported that this is the policy in all but one of our neighboring cities of comparable size. The city coverage would be the basic health coverage and not include dental and other options available. A study is underway by the above-name- d counselors of wages of our employees compared to wages of similar cities in this area. The study is an important facet of the preparation of the tentative budget It was suggested by for 1991-9the city attorney that to provide the necessary service to the citizens and maintain the good employees in our city, additional revenues should be generated. He said there has not been a tax increase in Salina City in ten years. The source of this revenue could come from an increase of the tax mill levy andor franchise taxes on elecuic power and natural gas. The city council will consider these recommendations as they proceed in the preparation of a new budget. 2.
