More on Mormon Miracle Pageant DEFINING YOUR CHOLESTEROL LEVEL: We hear all the time about watching our cholesterol level or reducing it. But whats a good cholesterol level and whats a bad one? The National Cholesterol Education Program of the national HcartLung, and Blood Institute recently released these measurements: In children, an acceptable level is anything less than 170. Borderline numbers in children would be from 170 to 199; In adults, an acceptable level is less than 200. Borderline for adults is 200 to 239. EVOLUTION OF THE Viewpoint iqtftu SECRETARY Nathan Hallows will go to Superstar camp The Way It Looks From Here 1 Carol S. Jensen I never thought it would happen to me! One of the fun parts (for me) of belonging to a retired Air Force Fam ily is going up to Hill and spending time at the Base. The BX has merchandise from around the wold at rock bottom prices. The Commissary has vegetables Ive never heard of, and the Thrift Shop is full of great bargains as families transfer in and out of the base. Dinners at the NCO Club are fabulous - always palate pleasing and picture perfect. Medical services are also available, and among them all, we usually sound of the jets spend the larger part of a day. I like the as they head out 'into the wild blue yonder, and the uniformed hodge podge of ethnic backgrounds working in unity. I never get tired of the Yes, SIR' (always with the emphasis on sir). I enjoy being Last week we had an appointment at the base. I looked forward to a pleasant day's activities. We coasted up to the front gate. The poster-perfeguard in his baby blues' took a step toward us - but instead of the signal and crisp salute we usually received, he snappy the the to side of gate and said, Please pull to the right. Sir. pointed Now what... I began. Three guards in what looked like combat garb, with rifles slung over their shoulders, approached us. May we have your permission to search your vehicle. Sir? Search our vehicle, I thought! What are we supposed to be hiding? I did throw a candy wrapper under the seat - but they wont give me life for that, will they? From behind a nearby hedge came another BP with his German Sheppard on a short chain. If youll step out. Maam, he said politely. The dog sniffed my leg as I tiptoed by. Meanwhile, hubby was digging deeply for his military ID and driver's license. As usual when in a hurry, the military ID seemed to have vanished. The guards looked through the front section of the truck, and then the dog went to work. She sniffed under, over, around, and through - in places I didnt know we had. I tried to hide behind the truck. Everyone passing through the gate eyed us curiously, and some likely went home that evening to tell their family they had seen a drug bust at the front gate - and there were some 'tough looking characters' at the scene. It didnt take long. Thank you for your cooperation - Sir, saluted You may proceed. the young Officer. And proceed we did - at the very top of the posted speed limit. We both were silent for a few moments. Why do you think they stopped us, I asked feebly. Do we look like crooks? Well, they could see that we were not from around here, The MSgt. mumbled - "It was just a routine security check. The horror of the event stayed with me the rest of the day. I walked through the BX with my arms folded so no one could question me for shoplifting. In the spotlessly clean restroom I changed my hairstyle hoping no one would recognize me and connect me with the incident at the gate. Hours later as we approached the exit gate, my body tensed. The young BP smiled, snapped to attention, motioned us to pass through and flipped a brisk salute. Next time we go to the base weve got to wear some fancier clothes, polish that truck inside and out, use whitener on our teeth, and practice looking more genuinely military. One encounter with the drug sniffing dog and her counterparts is enough for anyone! Nathan Hallows has been invited to attend Sportsworld Superstar bas- ketball Camp in July. The Church Missionary Committees expressed purpose for writing a new pageant is the studied review of all media effort in the Churchs program - currently focused on pageants. This was done under direction of the first presidency. Because of this study, all pageants, over a period of time, were to be to center the focus more closely to the concept of Christ We are the third in review. The Missionary Committee stated to us that the motive was not to fix the successful Mormon Miracle Pageant, but that there was a need to bring all media together in the focus that seems most right for our missionary approach. The proposed new pageant is being written, but because it is not complete, the question of it meeting the criteria is still to be answered. Those who are creating the new pageant have seen the old pageant more than once, and will have access to copies of the old pageant script. If a new pageant is accepted, it may or may not be ready for next years production. If it is not, we will continue as at present. The point to remember is that this year is the 25th year of the of the past 25 years. If a new pageant does not meet the standards of the Church Missionary Committee, we will still have the grand production that has touched people so effectively in the past. We are comforted by the history of the past, that right will prevail, and the future success of the pageant is sure, because the Kingdom is directed by inspired people. The great spirit that has accompanied the production in the past will be with us still, and hearts will continue to be touched both by those who view it, and maybe even more for those who participate in the production and those who service the many pageant needs. Sheriff Wally Buchanan said that his department spent over 150 man hours and drover more than 900 miles this past weekend stopping vehicles and investigating individuals traveling in fields late at night. Fifteen Sanpete Search and Rescue units were brought in to help, and farmers are being asked to contact the sheriffs office to report any suspicious people or events around their properties. Two suspects are currently under investigation for alleged in volvement with similar incidents in Utah county. Buchanan said that candles used to start the fires had been purchased in a store in Ephraim. In addition, a Fariview farmer found an alleged arson device on his property that apparently had failed to ignite. Fairview Marshal Jim Cheney handled that investigation, Buchanan noted. Buchanan said the individual or individuals appear to be casing the property during the day, setting the delayed fuse after dark, and are gone before the fire erupts. He adds that until the investigation has been completed, anyone traveling in the fields late at night will be stopped and questioned. Don't become a Memorial day statistic Last year six people lost their lives in traffic accidents in the state of U tah. Estimates are that at least the vehicle in front of you passes a stationary object to the time you pass. If it is less than two seconds, you are too close. During bad weather, slow down, turn on your headlights and increase the distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. To fight fatigue on long trips, stop every 90 minutes for rest, eat light meals, exercise, and rotate drivers. If you travel along and feel sleepy, stop and get rest. If you do plan to drink, use the designated driver program , where on person in the group refrains from drinking and assumes the responsibility to get everyone else home in safety.
