There are new babies galore in our little town. LaNeal and Kathy Ncilson have a new baby girl in their family. Jalec Hallows has a new tiny sister. The parents of the new little miss are Troy and Dalene Hallows. A precious baby girl has joined the family of Kent and Kris Mick-else- - REDMOND NEWS MEWS 529-736- Ruby Hammond - 0 Young Men and Young Womens organizations from Aurora First Ward attended the LDS Temple in Manti to do baptisms for the dead. Teresa Horan, Highland, Utah, niece of Karen Hales, was here visiting and to attend the Restless Heart concert at Snow College. Her cousin Bobby Hales, took her back up to Highland after they visited with Grandmother, Joy Green, Alpine. Karyn Johnson, Daughter of Leonard and Barbara Scott, was graduated from Primary and welcomed into the Young Women's organization in the Aurora Second Ward. Marvin Smith, husband of Amey Smith, passed away last week. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon and were attended by many friends and loved ones from far and near. An outstanding program was presented in the Aurora Second Ward Sacrament meeting by the Young Womens Organization, entitled Stay With the Gold. Congratulations to all involved in the North Sevier High School play. Youre a Good Man, Charley Brown, which placed 3rd in state competition last week. A missionary farewell was held for Elder Trent Lloyd, son of Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Lloyd, in the Aurora First Ward. Many friends and relatives attended. Available for rental depends if the vans are being used or not on the day the rental is wanted. Cost of the rental is 25 cents per mile. The van must be returned clean, full of gas, and of course the driver has to be a licensed driver with a good driving record. Joe Lane Nelson is the coordinator for planning longer trips. Anyone interested in going on the trips is asked to call her early in the month and make arrangements. The lunches at the Center are delicious, nutritious meals. If a person has the means, a donation of $1.50 is asked from those over 60, and $3.75 charge if under the age of 60. You cant find a meal any better than this anywhere, the Association says. All senior citizens are urged to come out to any or all of the activities held at the Center. the contribution is usually $5. Lack of money has no bearing on the use of these vans. Any organization within the county can also rent the vans. Even so she participated with her family in presenting the Sacrament meeting program on Sunday. Sharon and Quay gave talks as well as Maghan, Emily and Rhonda. MAgham and Emily played piano selections and Emily and Rhonda sang accompanied by Maghan. Little Laura also did an action song with Maghan. There to support the family and enjoy the presentation were Sharons mother Barbara Bown, her brother Jim Bown and her sisters Christine Bown and Anna Lee Lewis and children as well as Quays mom, Bemitta and his sister Camille Sorenson and daughter Matasha. Fearon and LaVell Despain enjoyed a visit last week from Fearons sister in law, Vera Sorenson of Bountiful and her son Steven of Texas. They also visited with Kaye and Marius Despain. Tracy Gillies came home from Colorado Tuesday to move more of her things and to visit with her parents Doug and Joan Gillies. Thursday Tracy and Joan were in Salt Lake City shopping and they had lunch with Shannon Wadstein. Nancy Bertelson was home from Snow College for the weekend and attended the Gunnison Stake Womens Conference with her mother, Arva Lee on Saturday. LaPreal Olsen enjoyed having the three daughters, Gayle Ball and Carrie Edwards of Gunnison and Connie Stevenson of Blanding attend the Womens Conference with her. Nannette Despain had a solo part in the Womens chorus that sang at the conference. Rilla Dee Sorenson also sang with the group. Some of the others attending were Utah Quarterhorse Assoc, sets two Open shows in May 2 : cant handle by herself. They all a enjoyed top notch lunch and visiting. Darlene Sorensen and children, Jennifer and Chad, of Murray, visited Friday and Saturday with Darlenes parents Wendell and Melba Mcllor. Jennifer and Chad enjoyed staying with their cousins Joe Brad and Wendy Mcllor. Darlene enjoyed going to the Womens conference with her Mother. Thomas James of Wyoming, visited a few days last week with his mother, Mrs. Thelma James. Lorraine Thomas and son, Joe, visited Salt Lake over the weekend with Lorraines daughter, Julie Smith and children. Many services are available to Senior Citizens in the area, according to the Salina Seniors Association. There are two new vans that can be used for various reasons. The vans are shared with Richfield, Salina, Koosharem and the Richfield Care Center. Salinas days for use of the vans each week are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and the second Saturday of each month. On Tuesdays and Thursdays anyone wanting to come to the Center for lunch or to play Bingo or cards, or just enjoy the company of other seniors - can be picked up and taken to and from the Center. Each Wednesday - Ed Priest, regular driver, will pick seniors up for lunch, and than take them shopping or to the doctor, or bank, or to whatever appointments they may have. The use of the van on Wednesday, is by voluntary contribution, generally $ 1 . Rose and Susan Bartholomew were home from college and spent the weekend with their parents Keith and Delene and family. Richard and Ann Harrop visited Saturday in Ogden with Richards parents Mr. and Mrs. Royal Harrop. Kandy Harrop spent the weekend home with her parents. Lynn and Thane Miller, and Pearl Norman, of Salt Lake, arrived Friday at Mrs. Fern Mcllors home, to help get ready for Ferns birthday celebration. Saturday, around 80 of Fern's family members gathered at her home to help her celebrate her 89th birthday. They all pitched in and did all kind of jobs in the house and yard that Fern 25. n. There were 81 senior citizens attending the dinner and social on April 26. A delicious diner of oven backed chicken, dressing, gravy, hot french bread, vegetables and dessert was served. He was bom in Superior, Nebraska, February 3, 1913, to Homer and Lelia Badger Smith. He married Ada Rae Behunin, October 1952. She died February 28, 1989. He then married Amey Quarnberg, June 14, 1989. He was a retired railroad worker and lumber company employee. He was a member of the LDS Church. He lived in Utah for 15 years. Survivors include his wife: Aurora, daughters Mrs. Charels (Leila) Theiff, San Francisco, CA; Mrs. Andrew (Julia) Nielsen, Yuca Valley, CA; step children, Leon Kay Quarnberg, Floyd Allen Quarnberg, both of Redmond. Ellis Quarnberg, and Jequitta Tutor, Aurora, 7 grandchildren, 16 step grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by a son, David Smith. Also survived by sisters, Ziva Belt, of Murphysville, CA, and Zelma Smith, 29 Palms CA. Funeral services were held Saturday, in the Aurora Ward Chapel with Bishop Kent Freeman conducting. An interview was held at the Utah High School Activities Association Bu ilding and a dinner was then served at the Willow Creek Country Club, Sandy. Each finalist received a gold medal and other items. Jason VanTassle was chosen winner and will represent Utah in Disney World in August. A track meet was held in Richfield Saturday. Even though it was windy and coo, the 33 teams did their best to set new records. The NSHS Girls took 2nd place. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Johnson and family were in Fillmore Sunday to attend the missionary homecoming of Tammys cousin Kelli Dearden. She just returned from her mission to Paraguay. A square dance jamboree was held Friday and Saturday at the Salina Stake Center. It was sponsored by the Sage Brush Swingers and included workshops and guest callers. Ensign Clay Christensen and his wife, Brenda, visited with their grandparents, the Merlin Ashmans, before leaving for Florida. Clay received his Navy Wings April 10 in ceremonies at Mather Air Force Base, California. He will receive further training in Jacksonville, as well as areas in Florida and Maine, before leaving for a three year tour of duty at the Naval Air Station in Rota, Spain. Pastor Medford Hutson Glade Peterson, Fairview and Sanpete countys noted performed, died at the University Hospital of cancer, on April 21, 1990. Mr. Peterson, founder and director of the Utah Opera Company, was bom in Milbum December 17, 1928. He grew up in Fairview where he attended school. While at North Sanpete High he was a fine athlete. He served as a military policeman during the Korean conflict, and then returned to his vocal studies. He married Mardean Rippton December 8, 1955 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He studied in New York, and in Europe, and performed worldwide. He formed the Utah Opera Company in 1978.He received the first Governors award in the Arts in 1989; Bronze Minute Man from the National Guard in 1989, and an honorary doctorate in 1978 from Southern Utah State College, among many other awards. Although his travels took him all over the world. Glade remained a cowboy at heart, and maintained a home in Fairview. He loved riding his horse in the hills and watching the sunset in the west hills. He was happy to perform for local fund raisers, ride in parades, and sing the national anthem at local rodeos and at the Mormon Miracle Pageant. Burial was in the SaltLake City Cemetery. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the Utah Opera Endowment Fund, 50 West 300 South, SLC. 84101. |
