Mav 1 7. 1 989 You First grade will give program and Your Child: in School Success by JIM CAMPBELL Utah Education Association President A couple of decades ago, a popular song was entitled Its Later Than You Think. It told us a truth we didnt want to hear. It said were all running out of time. THe song is undoubtedly more appropriate today. For example, PTA Today magazine has published this sad message that was handed to an educator by a little boy: My parents and I arentso close, they both work and often leave before I get up in the morning and get home after I go to bed. When I see them its a treat. How can I get close to them? Is it possible that we parents can look for our schedules to be less demanding in the future? Maybe. Maybe not. But Ellen Rosenberg, the educator who received that note, offers several thoughts forparents on using SSI The Salina First Grade will present their program on Thursday, May 18, 1989, at 1:30 p.m. in the school Multipurpose room. Everyone is invited to at- W the time well that is available with the children. She writes: We tend to think, Oh, I 10 minutes before I have have only to leave. Families that are especially busy would to well to realize that the quality of that moment can mean so much. walk around A the block can mean more than you could imagine. A short conversation during which there is at least time to let that person know that he or she is loved and missed can mean so much. If we dont have hours to spend, we need to appreciate the time we have together. Its Later Than You THink is a song that tells us more than the fact that were running out of time. The lyrics also offer this message to all of us: Enjoy yourself. To that, let me add: Enjoy your family. tend.
