Show FFA Supplement. March 15. 1989. Page 2 FFA Cattle herd Our herd of cattle is slowly but surely growing. We have five pure bred Gclbvieh cows, two of which have calved and three are expecting shortly. One of the calves is a purebred heifer. The other is a Gclbvieh black bull cross. We are going to keep the heifer calf and sell the bull calf as a steer. Every day Byron Allred checks on the cows for us and makes sure they are doing well. Last April we sold a purebred Gclbvieh bull to raise money for the Chapter. We are is growing We would like to thank everyone who has helped feed and take care of the cattle: Bob Robins, Ken and Terrel Nelson, Ron Allred, Byron Allred, Larry Crane and Rock Buchanan. Chapter will host Rodeo on May 20 Events will include Team roping, team penning, team branding, barrels, poles, trailer race. The Rodeo will be held The Salina Roping Club has donated the use of steers for the events, Mr. Andreason said, and we thank them for their help and support. The Rodeo will be a fun affair, and concessions will be in the Salina Rodeo Arena. sold, and there will also be events for children, such as ribbon pull etc. Jared Johnson and Ryan Whitlock have qualified for state Rodeo competition which will be held June 14 17, in Hcber. Both will be rodeoing on March 24, in the bareback section, at the Golden Spike Arena, in Ogden. We invite everyone to come and watch. Most of the events dont need the use of horses, and will let more members enter. FFA The Chapter Rodeo will be held May 20th. Six Chapters will be participating including Gunnison, Fillmore, South Sevier, Richfield, Wayne, Piute and NSHS. FFA HERD IS GROWING: The NSHS FFA's cattle herd continues to grow. They hope to buy another Gelbvieh bull this year to the one replace they sold last year to raise funds for the Chapter. Week is celebrated nationally by 8,000 FFA More than 416,000 FFA members have been celebrating National FFA Week. FFA members in 8,000 chapters across the United States, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands organized events and activities to create awareness of and support for high school agriculture and the FFA. High school agriculture classes stress hands-o- n experience in many diverse areas of agriculture. FFA activities provide leadership development, career training and award incentives for these young people. The national FFA president has said that Were proud of this commitment to young people and agriculture. As FFA members and students in agriculture classes, we are receiving the business, science, and leadership skills we will need to prepare for the diverse and challenging careers in agriculture. FFA is a national organization of 416,000 students preparing for agricultural careers. Developing agricultural leadership, cooperation and citizenship is FFAs major The next few weeks will be busy ones for the North Sevier FFA - many activities and competitions will be held. Some of them include the following: April 6,7,8- - State comin petition Parliamentary Procedure, Public Speaking, and FFA Creed will be held at B YU. Also the FFA State convention will be held, where those attending will vote on the State FFA Policy and line up activities for the upcoming year. April 18 -- 19: A Judging Field Day will be held at Brigham Young University. Teams will compete in the areas of Livestock; Horse; Meats; Dairy; Dairy Foods; Poultry; and Poultry Products. NSHS FFA will have teams competing in all of these events. April 25 will be a Judging Field Day at Southern Utah State, in Cedar City. Areas of judging will include Livestock; Horse; Land and Dairy. Teams from NSHS will compete in all categories. The second weekend in May will see State Competition at Utah State University. Allihe First place Chapters from the prior judging competitions will meet for three days of competition.
