Show BOX ELDER JOURNAL, 8 SPORTS Brigham City, Utah Intermountain quicker, smaller Cutter Craze ;gl by Marge Jensen Results from the Golden Spike Chariot Association ,y Many Friends I saw so many of our Bear River Cutter association friends with us. It was real good to have you there, in fact, that good old Spin Baty brought us two bottles of horse conditioner for the loser of the closest race in the colts and aged teams. We gave the colt team Draper, Wilson & Strong, a guest team, the one bottle and saved the aged one for next week, Ill let you know who gets it, Spin, thanks much. By the way it was donated by the Four Seasons Supply in Tremonton. Our three judges were on the track with their glasses cleaned and their trigger fingers on the stop watches, just in case the camera misses, intently watching every race and making sure all was in order. They are Jim Johnson, Don Johnson (brothers) and Les Hansen, from Ogden. This is a very responsible position Im sure these guys will do us a good job. They are under a lot of pressure and we all appreciate them. All the Story Im not sure the first race tells all the story about the teams that will be running. You know, you cant get an honest answer out qf any of the guys. They will try to tell you the horses have just been brought in from the pasture and not in very good shape. For shame, did you notice how every hair was in place, tails bobbed and you could just tell there had been a lot of spittin and polishin" for days getting ready for the main event. here Well, Tom Johnson Jay Allen Spencer & Spencer Fife Rock Products races is how the turned out Saturday. What was the attraction that drew that many hunters from one area to Utah? In the most simple terms, it was Utahs deer and the fact that the potential for hunter success is far greater in Utah than in California, according to the Division of Wildlife Resources. In their 1976 hunt, California hunters registered a hunter success figure of 9.2 percent; while during the same year, Utah hunters recorded a 33 percent success ratio. But while those numbers tell part of the story, there is also another reason that California hunters give their willingness to purchase a nonresident license, and it is that a Utah deer just simply tastes better than a California deer. . contemplate. Whatever the reasons, it is a fact that a great many California hunters spend 50 weeks a year just waiting for the two weeks when they can hunt Utahs deer. And whatever the benefits those hunters enjoy, it is a fact that Utah benefits, too. This year it is estimated that hunters will leave behind more than three and a half million dollars in Utah, the division reports. Meat stolen pdds $$' Covers-u- at Seventh South and Main. All boys who signed up with YBA on this past Saturday are asked to be at the clinic. Many people have called city hall worried about getting their boys and girls in this program. If you havent registered yet, do so this Saturday before, during and after the clinic. We need to get you signed up so we can get the shirts and manuals ordered, says Jack Winn, recreation director.
