Harper Earthquake days and disaster planning programs are gaining in popularity. It is reasuring to know exactly what to do in the face of calamity. This is why the Corinne PTA is sponsoring an emergency communication system." Every home will be a part of the program and the communication systems network. Community members will be contacted by Doris Shipley in Corinne, and Pauline ODell in West Corinne. The ladies will inform the families of their roles, like what to do when natural disaster hits and all the telephone lines are down, or in less dramatic instances, which parents to notify that the school bus has broken down. Also in January, the PTA has invited Marvin Miller to conduct disaster planning in his emergency awareness pro- gram. Clinic Set An amblyopia or lazy eye clinic for all preschoolers, four and five years old has been sponsored by the PTA. This free and official screening will be Oct. 3 at 10:30 a.m. in the Corinne school library. Come and bring your friends with small children. Darlene Misrasi is in charge of the school census taking. It is a state law that every home must be visited. So Corinneites expect her visit by Oct. IS. Corinne school is now drawing up plans for an exciting Community School program. It will offer classes in dance, marching and stage. A choice of activities will be offered. In dance there will be ballet, modern with jazz and contemporary, creative dance and stage movement. In marching there is also drill team and baton. The stage classes will present an opportunity to learn theatrical techniques, improvisation and creative dramatics. For those who enjoy comedy, a play is planned. If you like to perform, here is your chance, children. The teachers invited to participate in the Community School are Tammy Schmidt and Marlene M. The Community School will start on oct. 17 and will run for ten weeks. The Peoples party with Wesley Hansen as chairman, will meet at city hall at 7:30 p.m. The Citizens party, with Clayton Morrill as chairman, will meet at the Corinne school house at 7:30 p.m. the same evening. Corinne City council meeting will be held on Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m. It promises to be interesting. The new water system will be bid and the citys books will be audited. The public is invited. This week John Ferry issued a challenge to all Corinneites. Marine gains promotion to PFC rank Marine Private First Class Richard T. Hugic, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard K. Hugic of 676 South Sixth West, Brigham City, has been mertoriously promoted to his present rank upon graduation from recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. He received the early promotion for his superior perform- ance during all phases of the ' training cycle, which emphasized physical conditionand teaming, work. Local couple returns from florists confab Mr. and Mrs. Don Lewis Olsen of Brigham Floral and Gift recently returned from the Northwest Florists association annual convention in Spokane, Wash. Theme this year was The Sights and Sounds of Flowers". The local couple attended sessions devoted to trends in the industry. One such trend has been influenced by the emphasis on ecology and the energy crisis. There were instructions on how more efficiently to use greenhouses and floral shops and the new solar energy techniques. Logan. Back Home Now Mrs. Irene Smithen returned to her home in Layton Friday evening after visiting here for golden wedding anniversary. They also enjoyed a short visit with Cecil and Ruth Larsen. in wedding reception was held in Snowville Saturday evening for Lynn Neal and Kelly Coleman of Logan. Lynn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lon Neal of Snowville. Jack and Marian Kimber, Reese and Irma Warburton were there to enjoy the evening with their friends. Deneice and Damon Vasquez have returned home after living with the Hughie Thompson family for 7 months. They are now living with their parents, Tony and Judy Vasquez and family in Hyrum. Herbert and Vera Tanner and son, Allen, drove to Tremonton Sunday to participate in the blessing of Don and Bobbie Tanners new baby boy. The father named the baby Clayton Douglas. Also attending were Bobbies parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Rhodes of Garland, broth- - some time with Carol and Dwight Warburton and family. The Warburtons were overnight guests of Mrs. Smithen Friday and after a day of dental appointments returned home Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Morris Mitchell of Oakley were visitors here Sunday. Laraine Tanner drove out from Ogden for a weekend visit and brought her grandmother, Mrs. Vinnie Kinzler of Park Valley. They spent the weekend with Merlin and Kenna Tanner and family. All the students have now moved away to attend high school and college. Sherisse Warburton is at Ricks, Carolyn Warburton at Bear River High school, Jay Tanner is at B.Y.U., And the circus area seniors BC will A play trip to Heritage theatre in Perry to see I Remember have our regular luncheon and honor those who have birthdays in October. Patty moved from Dallas, Texas to work in a music store in Salt Lake. She and Dell and Ella drove to Sunday school and sacrament meeting in Snowville. Their granddaughter, Amy, was confirmed on Sunday. They had an enjoyable visit with Douglas and Kathleen Tanner and daughters who live there. Spending the weekend with their parents, Jack and Marian Kimber, were their daughters Edith and Karen from Tremonton, Jackie, who is employed at the bank in Salt Lake, Gwen and Barney McWilliams and children from Snowville. Spending a couple of days at the dentist and visiting family wre Oren and Opal Kimber. They called on Karla and Reed Beecher and boys in Bountiful, Joetta and Dan Lijenquist and family in Corinne. On Saturday, Joetta and her family, Cheryl, Deneice, Brandon, Brett and Travis were here visiting her parents. They also brought a cousin, Tommy Jensen with them. They had an enjoyable time riding horses, doing genealogy, eating and visiting. their childrens teacher and hear about classroom policies and curriculum. Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the meeting. Sewing class still has plenty of space There are still plenty of openings in the Bridgerland Vocation center power sewing class. Donna Hansen, director, said jobs are available for those who complete the class. Employment is generally immediately after completion of the course. Length of the class is commensurate with student abilities. Tanners returned home Saturday evening and reported a lovely time. Hattie stayed for a longer visit. Rhea and Archie Toyn hosted a family home evening for Winfred and Olive Kimber, Bishop Lyman anad Eula Kimber. The couples enjoyed a telephone visit with old friends, Dorothy and Julius Fussek. The Fusseks have moved to a different area in Salt Lake and seem to be tremendously happy. Have Visitors Randy and Brenda Kimber and daughter, Kami were visited by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Baxter of Malta on Saturday. They had been vacationing in Canada. Mrs. Hattie Tanner was honored Saturday for her 80th birthday anniversary. Max and Melissa Tanner took her to Brigham Friday and on to Salt Lake Saturday. A family party was enjoyed at the home of Eva and Dr. J.D. Mortensen in Salt Lake. All of Hatties family were present and many grandchildren: Mervin and LaVerne Tanner and family of Brigham, Max and Melissa Tanner, Grouse Creek, Fern and Jack Hutchins and family of Ogden, Eva and J.D. Mortensen and family Salt Lake, Monte and Virginia Tanner and family, Plan City, Fae and Dean and family. An outside barbeque and program were enjoyed along with a time for genealogy. The Max Gone to College After vacationing here for some time Janet Blanthorn returned to college in Salt Lake last week. Her mother, Mrs. Bobbie Blanthorn, took her to Salt Lake on Friday. Ed Harris and Archie Toyn mixed business and pleasure in Burley Saturday getting their car services. OIA Dinner Party A family dinner party honored Grover and Eva Harper on their 50th wedding anniversary, which the couple celebrated on Thursday, Sept. 22. The dinner was held at the Maddox Ranch house with 58 guests attending. The couple was pleased to be joined by their brothers and sisters and four children: Neil and Ezra Harper of Corinne, Mrs. Aundrene Yates Haws of Lay-toand Mrs. Treva Johnson of kntua. Many of their 12 inlaws, 20 grandchildren and 14 were present. One of the evenings was a long distance phone call from Detroit, Mich. It was Dr. Chip Yates, a grandson and his family calling. The Harpers received many lovely gifts, including some poems from a granddaughter Tamara. But the most impressive was a family tree painted in oils by grandson Kevin Yates.
