Utah Power & Light seeks another rate increase, many of our customers are asking: "Why does Utah Power need so much; who's really As responsible?" A fair question. One clue: didnt have to build any additional generating capacity to supply future demand, we would be asking for only a 6 to 7 increase, about the current national rate of inflation, instead of 21. But what about the balance of the requested increase? Whos If Utah Power responsible? Are you among any of these groups? . . . court of honor ARE YOU A NEWLYWED? Utah Power makes over 14,000 new connections each year -e- quivalent to a city larger than Logan. Most of these new customers are our children or grandchildren who have grown up, married and are starting new households in new apartments or homes... requiring additional electric service. In our area, the birth rate is about four times the death rate... which means rapid growth for the area even without new people coming in from who served after World War II and before the Korean Conflict are now eligible for home loan benefits? A Effective October 1, 1976, those with active duty after July 25, 1947, and prior to June 27, 1950, who served more than 180 ARE YOU A NEWCOMER? Many of our additional 14,000 service connections are for newcomers. Some of these newcomers are former residents . . . many of them are children of residents... coming back here to work... some are returning to help develop the rich energy resources of the area . . . others have just found the Intermountain Area lifestyle or recreation facilities attractive ... or the job market favorable. other states. days under conditions other than dishonorable or discharged with less service for a service-connecte- d disability, became eligible for home loan benefits. ARE YOU A NEW STORE OR PLANT OWNER? YOU BOUGHT NEW APPLIANCES OR REMODELED YOUR HOME? New stores All and industrial plants are constantly to the Utah Power service area (or added being present ones expanded), creating new jobs for our native young people and newcomers. Whenever this occurs, additional electric service is required. Utah Power is legally bound to provide service to all who request it. HAVE those who acquire additional major appliances such as refrigerated air conditioning and color TV or add living space to their homes increase the total demand for electricity. 'i 9:00 TU&IttVO don't fit in any of these categories? Maybe not... but most all of us have increased our use of electricity substantially... contributing to the need for new power plants. The average residential customer in Utah in the past ten years! How about you? increased his electricity use 51 Utah Power has only enough generating capacity for present customers at their present levels of use. Whether we like rt or not, the area's population is growing at a rate almost three times as fast as the nation. So theres really no mystery: In addition to covering added operating costs due to inflation, Utah Power is asking rate increases to help build electric generating plants those already under construction and those that must be started now completing a new plant about every two years. These plants must be built at high construction costs and equipped with costly pollution controls. The increase will enable Utah Power to borrow the money-- at economically feasible rates that will make it possible to build them. It takes five years.to build a new plant... that's why at Utah Power, it's already tomorrow! You fussBnvo uktcsikv 9 FRIENDS OF KUED 101 Music Hall Salt Lake City.
